Besides their three main hospital sites, they are also responsible for community hospitals, health centres, clinics, mental health units, community teams, GP practices and other NHS services provided by dentists, opticians and pharmacists. They plan to improve the health of the population, with particular focus upon the most vulnerable in our society.
WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The hospital provides a full range of general Obstetric & Gynaecology services, primarily on the main hospital site, as well as outpatient services in satellite community hospitals at several areas. The delivery rate has been stable around 2200 per annum over recent years, but the complexity of cases has increased significantly over the last year with the full transition of specialised neonatal intensive care services in North Wales centralised at the hospital's area. This provides cover for over 7000 women a year.
Currently, there are 9 substantive Consultant Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, all provide general obstetrics & Gynaecology services. Three new consultants participate in the out of hours second on call rota. There are six specialty doctors / Senior Clinical Fellows who complement the second on call daytime & out of hours rota. There are eight junior doctors who participate in the first on call out of hours rota. The service provides a local Gynaecology Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) referral service, and manage some Gynaecology cancer cases locally, networked to the North Wales Gynaecology-oncology surgical centre based at Bangor. Fertility & Urogynaecology services are networked across North Wales.
The post holder will participate in the second on call rota, including out of hours on a 1 in 8 full shift with prospective cover for annual, study & statutory days leave. The post holder will be expected to attend & actively contribute to educational & governance activities within the department.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology consists of: -12 substantive Consultant Obstetricians/Gynaecologists and 1 WTE locum consultant. 5 new consultants participate in the out of hours middle grade rota. There are 4 specialty doctors, 1 trainee and 3 senior clinical fellows who complement the middle grade day time and out of hours rota. This post is to complete the full complement of middle grades in order to work a 1 in 9 on call rota.
The birth rate at the Hospital maternity unit has remained steady around 2700 per annum. The Labour Ward, maternity wards, Special Care Baby Unit, Obstetric theatre, Intensive Care, Gynaecology ward and the main operating theatres are located on the first floor of the hospital. There is a dedicated Obstetric theatre within the labour ward complex. There is a dedicated modern ultrasound machine, housed in the antenatal clinic area used for fetal scanning including interventional procedures like amniocentesis and chorionic villous sampling.
The post holder will involve routine clinical and on call commitments with opportunity to complete ATSM in certain areas, as well as research opportunities.
