General Pathologist (Histopathology) - CESR accommodated

 

Job Description

UK based consultants with CCT or experienced overseas histopathologists with completed or part-completed CESR can be considered for these fantastic opportunities working with one of the UK\'s fastest growing NHS pathology services. Those with CCT will have opportunities in leadership should this be desired whilst those pursuing CESR can be supported through the process whilst developing their areas of special interest in line with service needs.


All positions are offered on a 10PA, forty hours per week contract, and consultants with special interest in gynecology, upper and lower GI, dermatopathology, urology, breast and head & neck are of particular interest. Please note however - experienced consultants with different special interests can be accommodated. You will be expected to report on a range of specimens but to develop in your three areas of particular interest. Again, there is also scope for much teaching experience. 

WHAT IS THE PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?

Comprised of a team of 12 current histopathology consultants, this is a moment of huge growth for the Trust as they look to incorporate another laboratory. The team contains consultants with diverse experience & training from the UK, Spain, France, South Africa, India and the Middle East. Management and clinical staff work hard to engender an empowering and supportive work environment. Using a state of the art time management and reporting system with state of the art equipment across three laboratories - the services are part digitalised. Full digitalisation is expected in within 12-18 months. The laboratory is approved by the IBMS as a training laboratory for pre-registration and specialist training in Cellular Pathology. The department has full UKAS/ISO accreditation. The Department is HTA compliant and HFEA accredited and takes part in benchmarking exercises.

The laboratories are located in the north east midlands with great access to the North Westerly cities, Birmingham and the rest of the UK with its excellent national transport connections. The local region is beautiful, not far from some of the UK’s most beautiful and dramatic countryside with nature, fresh air and wildlife being the cornerstone of this beautiful part of the UK. Having said that, the area is well developed with two cities and several towns offering a feasible location for individuals to set up home.

    They also offer an ambulatory pleural service and share bronchoscopy lists. EBUS, interventional bronchoscopy, and Thoracoscopy procedures are conducted at the Eastbourne endoscopy unit.     What is the Respiratory Medicine Department & Team like?

    NUH is one the largest respiratory departments in the country with a wealth of subspecialty services, ranging from asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, ILD including LAM, through lung cancer to infections including TB. In particular they are a regional centre for complex ventilation and sleep. The Respiratory service runs on both campuses; therefore cross site working is a requirement of the post. Respiratory inpatient beds are currently predominantly on the City campus. NUH has a dedicated respiratory assessment unit (RAU), taking direct admissions via 999 ambulance service, as well as transfers from the Emergency Department based at Queen’s Medical Centre campus. RAU has 20 beds, including 4 side rooms, and is led by a strong team of nurses, including Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and a team of doctors, including a dedicated Trust grade post. On the QMC campus we have the 12 bedded Advanced Respiratory Care Unit (ARCU). The Respiratory team also provides in-reach cover to the Emergency department and acute medical admissions area based on the QMC campus. The successful candidate will join a team of 24 NHS Respiratory consultants and 8 academics, who also have a wide range of sub-specialty interests. The consultant team is supported by 8 middle grade doctors and a team of nurse specialists across COPD, lung cancer, oxygen, ILD, Asthma and TB. We also have Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) supporting the acute pathway and some chronic disease clinics.
