Job Description

A Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is required for a high performing CAMHS Adolescent Emotional and Behavioural team (EBT), based in the East of England, North West of London. 

Following a recent CQC inspection the Trust was awarded an Outstanding rating.

This child and adolescent psychiatry consultant post is based in a CAMHS service comprised of a number of multidisciplinary teams based upon care pathways including:

  • Adolescent Mental Health Team
  • Emotional & Behavioural Team(s)
  • Neurodevelopmental Team (Learning Disability and Autism +/- ADHD)
  • LAC / Targeted Team

The child and adolescent service provides assessment and treatment to young people (0-17 years) presenting with a range of significant and enduring mental health problems including psychosis, bipolar disorder, severe depression and OCD.

The post-holder will be expected to offer contributions to the wider clinical leadership, the multi-disciplinary team, to provide psychiatric assessment and treatment where clinically appropriate and case management of high risk presentations.
 

The trust have been rated as the best place to work in mental health in the country by the Health Service Journal and have received very high ratings in the national staff survey for staff being able to make a change at work.

Requirements for the role: 

EEA:

  • specialist in psychiatry (eligible for direct entry to the GMC)
  • Independent practice in Child and adolescent psychiatry experience

Non-EEA:

  • MRCPsych
  • Independent practice in Child and adolescent psychiatry experience

    Applicants for both pure breast radiology or breast and general radiology (or another subspecialty) are encouraged to apply.

    Ideally, the applicant will be trained in screening, individuals with symptomatic breast training only will be considered. If the applicant wishes to train in screening this would also be supported by the Trust.

    General Radiology duties will be based in the main department at one site, while sessions in breast imaging are located in a seperate site within the larger complex.

    Performance:
    42,225 women were invited for screening in 2017/18 with an uptake of 78.9% and the very successful High Risk MR breast screening service was implemented in 2014.

    Symptomatic breast imaging services are provided by the breast imaging team independently and the symptomatic service receives approximately 4500 referrals per year. All these referrals are seen in a one stop clinic with surgical and imaging assessment in the same visit.

    Radiology Team:
    You will be part of a team that includes the following:

    • Four committed and enthusiastic breast radiologists based in the trust, forming an essential part of the localities Breast Screening Service.
    • Two advanced radiographic practitioners will also support performing stereotactic biopsy and wire placement
    • Four film reading radiographers providing screen reading.
    • The clinics are well supported by specialist breast care nurses.

    Equipment & Facilities:

    Equipment is as the following:

    • They have a fully digital service having 1 brand new GE Pristina mammography unit with DBT, CESM and 2D biopsy.
    • There is a further Philips L30 with Diagnostic Scan mammography unit.
    • There are 2 breast ultrasound rooms with voice recognition reporting equipped with new Canon Aplio machines.
    • Vacuum assisted Encore biopsy is available in addition to standard 14G.
    • MRI services are housed in a new diagnostic imaging centre adjacent to Gainsborough Wing.
    • New breast coils and software are installed.
    • Multi-disciplinary breast care meetings are held in the unit’s dedicated MDT room.
    • The unit enjoys excellent working relationships with our colleagues in breast surgery, oncology and nursing care.
    If you are a experienced radiologist with substantial experience in breast radiology, or limited experience in breast but with good grounding in general radiology - this may be the opportunity for you!

    Requirements for this position are the following:
    • FRCR or equivalent
    • Unfortunately no PLAB candidates will be considered unless exceptional circumstances
    • IETLS or OET and eligibility for GMC registration
    • Extension experience trained in breast screening, whilst individuals with symptomatic breast training only will be considered

    The trust will fully support training, development, CESR applications and is particularly welcoming to overseas candidates, though of course UK applicants with NHS experience will be warmly received too!

Specialists in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry holding a specialist certification would be suitable for this post, based on experience entering at either Specialty Doctor or Consultant grade.

    WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 

    The service is a team of excellent and forward thinking doctors consisting of: psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, creative therapists and family therapists. There is currently funding for 4.8 WTE Community Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists. The service aims to keep children and adolescents at home with increased support if possible. The Trust provides a comprehensive Specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service for young people that are 19 years and under. 

    The department has a Crisis Team that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While the Home Treatment (Intensive Intervention Team) aims to work from 8AM to 6PM, 7 days a week. The services is provided at various locations across the town in order to be able to offer families an accessible and convenient service within a less stigmatising and less threatening environment. There is also a team that works with people aged between 14 and 65, who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis or might be at risk of developing psychosis.

    The post holder expected to make assessment of referrals/admissions. The post holder will liaise and collaboratively work with other services/agencies. The successful candidate is expected to have a care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.
