Senior A&E doctors with ambitions to pursue a career in the NHS, particularly with a view to work as consultants in ED within the next five years of their career are encouraged to apply.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a purpose-built department on the Trust's main site, in a new building commissioned in 1996. The department was modernized within its current footprint, and a Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), a RAT (rapid assessment and treatment)/ Minors area and a new dedicated paediatric area were redesigned, refurbished, completed and commissioned in November 2017.
The post is for 11 sessions per week. One session is allocated to CPD and supporting professional activities. Based on educational needs and careers aspirations and progress, 3 months every year may be granted to give experience in other specialties like ITU and Anaesthetics (the doctor will still be required to do night shifts and weekend in ED).
In the ED, a full shift rota system will be worked. Within the rota are float weeks, where doctors will cover annual/study leave. Clinical working hours will average around 40 hours per week across the period of the rota and will include a one in three weekend shift. In addition to this specialty doctors will undertake an average of 4 hours CPD a week. At least half of this will take place within the hospital and all of it will be fully documented to comply with the requirements of clinical governance and revalidation. CPD undertaken during rostered clinical hours (e.g. for formal teaching) will be made up flexibly to cover service needs.
Shift patterns will be designed to reflect patient attendance patterns and will be reviewed with staff in post.
Requirements for this position are:
- IELTS or OET desirable
- Extensive experience in emergency medicine, six years minimum
English exemption can be offered to those candidates that exhibit excellent standards of English at interview.
