Specialty Doctor - General Adult Psychiatry - Home Treatment

Job Description

An excellent opportunity for an experienced General Adult Psychiatrist to join an established NHS Adult Home Treatment Team in London. The post if suitable for overseas psychiatrists, including candidates who are pursuing CESR.

WHAT IS THIS MENTAL HEALTH TRUST LIKE? 
This NHS Trust is performing at a good level across all community and inpatient services, it provides integrated mental health services in this London Borough and also provides community health services in the catchment area.

They are a large provider of integrated mental health services, employing 3,359 staff with an annual income of £237 million. The trust serves a population of 1.2 million and operates services from five main inpatient sites and a further 25 sites in the community. Specialist services include regional forensic, eating disorders and adolescent inpatient services and a national stalking service.

Since 2011, the Trust has provided general community health services in the area to adults and children to meet the physical healthcare needs of people in the community.

In 2014 they were awarded 'University Affiliated’ status, which facilitates stronger working relations, including the opportunity for experienced academics and experienced clinicians within the Trust to coproduce mental health education and research projects which meet the needs of local people. This agreement enhances the current partnership between the two organisations, demonstrating a strong commitment to education, research and development.

WHAT IS THE HOME TREATMENT TEAM LIKE? 
This is an excellent Multi Disciplinary Team of mental health professionals providing intensive care and support in patients' homes as an alternative to acute inpatient admission.

The team carry out an assessment and wherever appropriate will provide intensive support for a limited period within the service users home. They will work closely with care-coordinators to ensure that care is offered within the least restrictive environment. 

If the clinical risks indicate that admission is required then home treatment teams are the gatekeepers of the inpatient beds and will arrange an admission within either one of the assessment wards or in the case of service users well known to services who already have a clear treatment plan, one of the acute wards.

The service is for people in acute mental health crisis living in the London Borough aged 16 and over.

EEA Candidates:

  • Experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry

  • Board Certified Specialist in Psychiatry

Non-EEA Candidates:

  • MRCPsych

  • Experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry

UK based applicants

  • Experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry

  • Within 6 - 12 months of completing CCT
