Fantastic opportunity to work for one of Manchester’s best University Teaching Hospital Trust’s, providing emergency medicine services for a catchment area of approximately 320,000. Candidates with aspirations to enter specialty training or pursue specialist registration via CESR or CCT will be supported.
The Emergency Department currently sees 100,000 attendances a year and the full spectrum of urgent care is provided, from a primary care stream to full resuscitation and critical care. There is a 12 bed Clinical Decision Unit managed by the ED and the hospital has all specialties on site except for Neurosurgery which is provided by a neighboring foundation trust. There is a hospital trauma team, cardiac arrest team and paediatric arrest team and psychiatric support to the Emergency Department is provided by a 24 hour team of Mental Health Liaison Nurses, supported by on call psychiatric medical staff.
The post holder will work alongside the other emergency medicine doctors on the senior middle grade rota. The main responsibilities will be to provide clinical assessment and management of your own patients as well as to supervise more junior members of the team.
A supervising consultant on the shop floor will enable development of leadership skills will supervise the middle grade doctors. You will be expected, with the support of the emergency department consultants, to manage the range of patients attending the department. This will include taking a lead role in the care of patients requiring resuscitation, managing complex cases, an increased work load and also running the department on occasions when the consultant is not present.
Hours of work will be on a full shift rota, equivalent to a maximum 48 hours a week and is divided between clinical work and provision of education (70:30). The clinical fellow post works a 1 in 3 weekend on call rota.
Requirements for this position are:
- MRCEM or PLAB
- IELTS or OET (exemptions can be considered if English is shown to at an acceptable level at interview)
- At least four years experience in emergency medicine
