Consultant Oncologist (overseas doctors for CESR required)

Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring oncology consultants to join a specialist cancer centre in the North East of England.

The Department of Oncology wishes to appoint a locum Consultant in GI oncology on an initial fixed-term contract or permanent contract, depending on whether the applicant has Specialist Registration or not.

The appointment would bring the current consultant workforce to twenty-one oncologists and the post will be predominantly based in the Cancer Centre at the main site, with the option of a peripheral clinic in nearby towns.

The post would focus on colorectal or upper GI cancer and cancer of the unknown primary (CUP) with possible work in other disease sites if needed.

The area has seen significant investment into oncology services alongside an expansion of consultant numbers. The £35M oncology Endeavour unit was opened in April 2012 and the specialist cancer centre in 2018.

The department boasts an expanded chemotherapy unit designed to meet the increasing demand for systemic treatment with established nurse-led and pharmacy-led chemotherapy clinics.

The trust also has state of the art radiotherapy facilities which are used to develop and deliver innovative radiotherapy techniques

Overseas candidates are particularly welcome to apply as the Trust has particular support in place for the development and progression of overseas doctors, particularly those looking to apply for CESR in Oncology.

Requirements for this position are the following:

  • MRCP UK
  • Consultant experience in medical oncology
  • SCE in medical oncology is desirable 

Successful applicants will be supported with Tier 2 visa by the trust and iMG Connect, whilst those applying for CESR will be fully supported by the lead consultant and trust.

    We are currently looking for an experienced Clinical Oncologist, who works with both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments for a large acute hospital in the Midlands, England.

    You\'d be joining a team of 8 clinical and 2 medical oncology consultants at the modern Oncology Centre (opened in mid 2010\'s), to help support and develop site-specific services in outpatient and chemotherapy as part of the development of the centre. 

    There are 3 Elekta LINACS with VMAT and IGRT, using Mosaiq and Raystation for RT planning on site, along with 35 chemo day chairs used across 3 hospitals under this NHS trust.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • FRCR Clinical Oncology or equivalent
    • Excellent english language skills
    • Extensive experience as a consultant oncologist (UK or overseas experience)

    12 - 24 months fixed term (subject to be renewed)
