Job Description

This high performing NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit enthusiastic consultant oncologists with either FRCR, MRCP or equivalent training and qualifications to deliver an integrated oncology practice across the North East of England. There are opportunities to work in a city based hospital or another large, general hospital located more ruraly. In addition to the clinical foundations of the role, they can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit. Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee. Those with CESR aspirations can be considered though some preparatory work for the CESR application is expected prior to arrival in the UK.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & JOB PLAN LIKE?

The Oncology department is experienced, vast and technologically advanced. With three main sites where oncological care can be provided there is a variety of environments you can work in. 
They are looking to build the team and flex to the skillsets of new colleagues. There will be 8.5PAs for DCC including on call (1 in 22). The job plan will depend on the speciality/ specialities of interest but will include outpatient clinics, chemotherapy planning, radiotherapy planning (in the case of clinical oncology colleagues). We would like colleagues to be involved in one peripheral practice either in the east or west of the region. Time will be allocated for MDT attendance.

In recent years it has been transformed into one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the country. With 2,000 years of fascinating history, the city has fabulous classical Georgian architecture in sweeping streets, wonderful restaurants and cafes, traditional pubs and contemporary bars, along with live music and theatre. National surveys often suggest that people in the north east enjoy a better quality of life than anywhere else in England. The region has beautiful countryside, friendly people and a low cost of living. Accommodation varies from central city and riverside, through suburban to the urban periphery, stretching into the neighbouring counties. The city is accessible by the East Coast Mainline rail service, with regular services through to London. In addition the Metro light-rail service connects to stations throughout the county and the A1(M) runs close by, with links to the national motorway network.

    Requirements for the post:

    • CCT or within 6 months of CESR

    We are currently looking for an experienced Clinical Oncologist, who works with both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments for a large acute hospital in the Midlands, England.

    You\'d be joining a team of 8 clinical and 2 medical oncology consultants at the modern Oncology Centre (opened in mid 2010\'s), to help support and develop site-specific services in outpatient and chemotherapy as part of the development of the centre. 

    There are 3 Elekta LINACS with VMAT and IGRT, using Mosaiq and Raystation for RT planning on site, along with 35 chemo day chairs used across 3 hospitals under this NHS trust.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • FRCR Clinical Oncology or equivalent
    • Excellent english language skills
    • Extensive experience as a consultant oncologist (UK or overseas experience)

    12 - 24 months fixed term (subject to be renewed)
