Consultant - Acute & General Medicine


We are looking to recruit an experienced acute & general medicine consultant to join a well established team in a newly created post, providing care in a rural district general hospital based in the North West of England. 

About the Trust: 

The Trust has won national awards for our composite workforce model and there will be opportunities to be involved in the training and educational supervision of Deanery trainees at all levels.

The post: 

The Department provides acute hospital medical services to a population of approximately 340,000. The specialties of cardiology, renal medicine, dermatology, and clinical oncology serve the whole of the region.

This represents a fantastic opportunity to join an energetic motivated and innovative team. the role comprises acute admission and short stay for medical admissions only. Patients are admitted directly from the community following assessment by general practice, or from the Emergency Department.

This post offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of developing new and innovative approaches and services.

If applicants have other interests, such as leadership, education, management or IT/digital medicine/support then we would strongly encourage and support this within the job plan.

The successful candidates will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement the other members of the department. 

A 1 in 10 on call rota is attached to the job plan. 

The location: 

This area includes is one of the country’s most outstanding places of natural beauty and the region is an attractive, largely rural area with access to good road and rail connections. Housing is relatively inexpensive and there is excellent state and private education provision.

Requirements for the role: 

Non-EEA Candidates: 

  • MRCP 
  • Consultant experience in general & acute medicine
EEA Candidates: 
  • Specialist Diploma 
  • Consultant experience in general & acute medicine
UK Candidates: 
  • Consultant experience & specialist registration (CCT)
  • or within 6 months of completing CESR
