Job Description

An exciting role providing medical input into the Trust wide Intensive Home Based Treatment Team. 

The role will operate under new ways of working principles; the post holder does not have a personal caseload but provides medical input to the Intensive Home Based Treatment Team as required.  The team caseload is usually around 50. 

The position is being offered on a one-year fixed term contract and will support Tier 2 Visa applications. 

Requirements for this post*: 

  • PLAB or MRCPsych (UK)
  • IELTS or OET 
  • GMC Registration 

Two-year postgraduate experience within psychiatry is desirable.

You must be a car driver.

    We are recruiting for an experienced and motivated Consultant Physician in Stroke Medicine to join a friendly and enthusiastic team in the North West of England.

    What is the department like? 

    The Trust is excited to be developing a Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at the Cumberland Infirmary site which will comprise a 10 bedded HAS unit at CIC, a further 25 acute and rehabilitation beds, and a further 15 acute and rehabilitation beds at WCH. If you successful, you will join the newly forming team and have the opportunity to contribute to this exciting development for our patients in both the Cumberland Infirmary and the West Cumberland Hospital. You would also be instrumental in the establishment of a high quality stroke service across North Cumbria. The planned 7-day service model will allow the delivery of 7-day stroke / TIA clinics which will rapidly speed up diagnosis and therapeutic intervention, and will provide an integrated pathway into community services.

    This development was implemented in the last few years, with the new service becoming increasingly embedded into Integrated Care Communities (ICCs) specialist ESSD rehabilitation that is delivered at local level under the joint management of the ICC and the ESSD coordination team.

    Am I eligible for this role?

    To be eligible for this vacancy you will need the following: 

    EEA candidates: 

    • Recognised European Medical Degree
    • European Specialist Qualification in Neurology or Geriatric Medicine (with experience in Stroke Medicine)
    • IELTS or OET 

    Non-EEA candidates: 

    • MRCP(UK) or equivalent
    • IELTS or OET 
    • Experience in Stroke Medicine and thrombolysis

    UK-based candidates: 

    • Within six months of CCT or CCT Holder

    Overseas stroke medicine physicians with experience in thrombolysis are encouraged to apply! The department will support any CESR applications to enable IMGs to apply for specialist registration in Stroke Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine.

    The department offers modern and well-resourced inpatient facilities on dedicated wards. This includes NIV, High Flow Nasal Oxygen, Step down ventilatory care and pleural ultrasound.

    Outpatient services include bronchoscopy lists across all sites with EBUS provision. They offer comprehensive pulmonary function facilitates across the trust including sleep services and bronchial provocation testing. The lung function labs have recently been upgraded to state of the art equipment including a brand new cardiopulmonary exercise machine with excellent exercise physiology research links at Lancaster University.

    Specialist clinics are currently offered for lung cancer, interstitial lung disease, asthma, sleep/ventilation and TB.
