A University Health Board in Wales are looking for a Consultant or Specialist in Clinical Oncology with a sub-specialty interest in Breast and Gynae. This is a permanent or fixed term contract type, considering either UK or Overseas trained doctors. The trust has excellent previous CESR experience and will support any overseas doctors with their CESR application. What is the Oncology department like?
This job can be based at 2 Cancer Treatment Centres, providing radiotherapy treatment and specialist chemotherapy for the population of North Wales, (676,000), excluding paediatric patients and those needing brachytherapy. It includes a 20-bed in-patient ward, a spacious day-case systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) unit (Heulwen) with facilities to treat up to 24 patients simultaneously, outpatient department with 10 clinical suites and radiotherapy review facilities
The medical staff includes: 7 substantive clinical oncologists, 1 locum clinical oncologist, 2 substantive medical oncologists, 1 locum medical oncologist and 1 vacant clinical oncology post.
The Radiotherapy Department has 4 Varian Linear Accelerators, a Gulmay Orthovoltage Unit, Phillips CT Planning Scanner, Prosoma, and an Eclipse Treatment Planning System supported by Limbus automated outlining. IMRT techniques are routine for most treatment sites with the addition of 4DCT and the centre is also actively working towards the implementation of SABR for lung.
Parenteral SACT is prepared in validated Pharmacy Aseptic facilities located within the acute hospital sites. Immunotherapy is given across all sites, with a newly-established, nurse-led immunotherapy toxicity service. The SACT service received a successful outcome of its first Peer Review in 2020.
