Job Description

An excellent NHS job opportunity for experienced Specialty Doctors in General Adult Psychiatry to join a Welsh Health Board that is continuously providing great healthcare to their community. This post is perfect for Specialty Doctors looking to build their career either through CESR support, specialty training or progressing to consultant. 

The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.

WHAT IS THE HEALTH BOARD LIKE?

The Health Board is situated in the heart of South Wales just north of Cardiff, between the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park and the coastal town of Porthcawl in the South. The area is steeped in history, widely recognised across the UK and around the world as the driving force of the industrial revolution and the coal industry. Today, the challenge is to work together in health and social care, and with the strong third sector to look ahead, rather than backwards to build strong, dynamic, healthy and sustainable communities.

The Health Board's Vision is to ‘Create Altogether Healthier Communities’ by aiming to prevent ill health, protect good health and promote better health’ through working with partners to provide services as locally as possible and reducing the need for hospital inpatient care wherever feasible. Acute, intermediate, community and mental health services are delivered across a network of Community Clinics, Health Centres and Community Hospitals.

The Health Board provides health service to a population of 450,000 many of whom live in deprived areas with a low level of life expectancy. The Health Boards adult mental health services are organised on a locality basis with each locality having a clinical lead, head of nursing and locality manager. 

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 

The department is a group of doctors that are very dynamic and forward looking. They are supportive with each other, and has a culture where development and progression is embedded. Their resilience, superb team work and close working nature with other colleagues makes the Adult Mental Health Teams team stand out– Teams that anyone would be proud to work with!

The Mental Health Directorate provides adult mental health services, older persons mental health services, rehabilitation and recovery services, and substance misuse services. Adult inpatient beds are based at the Mental Health Unit. There is a 14 bed Acute Assessment Ward, two 14 bed Treatment Wards and a 6 bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit within the Mental Health Unit. The department's current medical caseload analysis shows that there around 350 cases in secondary care. 

The post holder will be expected to provide senior clinical input to the assessment and management of patients, but not exclusively, managing outpatient clinics, collaborating in Care and Treatment Planning reviews, and offering advice and support to team members in managing patients. The post holder will facilitate post discharge reviews when appropriate, and participate in managerial and clinical team meetings.

EEA Candidates:

  • Experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Board Certified Specialist in General Adult Psychiatry

Non-EEA Candidates:

  • MRCPsych (UK)
  • Experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry

UK based applicants

  • Experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Within 6 - 12 months of completing CCT
