Consultant Psychiatrist - General Adult Psychiatry (with CESR support)

This is a great opportunity for overseas Communtity General Psychiatrists who want to establish themselves in the NHS, and grow their consultant career. The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.

Specialty Doctors who are ambitious to complete CESR and work towards becoming a consultant will also be supported in this role. Section 12 and AC will also be supported. 

WHAT IS THE TRUST LIKE? 

The NHS Trust provides mental health, learning disability and specialist services, serving 1.8 million people across the county. The Trust is rated Good overall by the CQC and Outstanding for care, and currently has 3,300 staff working across 33 locations, covering an area of 1,450 square miles. The NHS Trust is commissioned to provide secondary mental health services across their area, both in community and within inpatient settings.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 

The Team provides a service to their respective town and it’s surrounding villages. Total population served by the Team is 130,00 with the 19-64 population being 75,120. The current case load varies between 500 and 600 cases with a referral of approx. 5 cases per day. The consultant will work according to the principles highlighted in the New Ways of Working so all CPA cases will be carried by a care coordinator with consultant being consulted in case management.

The Team is consists of (1) Locality Manager, (2) Operational Team Managers, (1) Whole Time Equivalent Senior Practitioner (nusring), (6) Full Time equivalent CPN's, (2) Whole Time equivalent Occupational Therapist, (6) Full time STR workers, and (1) Non Medical Prescriber. Each Consultant may hold a small caseload of standard care patients who only require medical input prior to transfer to primary care (maximum number of 20).

The post holder will be expected to take an active leadership role in screening of referrals as well as assessment of new referrals jointly with other team members. The post holder will attend Trust meetings including Strategic Development Meetings, Clinical Governance Meetings within the Service Line and other meetings as requested.

    CORE DUTIES OF THIS ROLE
    • Provide medical oversight and psychiatric input for 22 beds (14 for functional illness, 8 for organic illness) on an inpatient ward

    • Conduct psychiatric assessments, care planning, and contribute to regular MDT reviews

    • Supervise junior doctors and support their training and development

    • Collaborate with community teams including the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team for Older People (CRHTT-OP)

    • Liaise with other services such as social care, physical health teams, and voluntary sector partners to ensure coordinated care

    • Engage in clinical documentation, audits, research, and educational activities
