Job Description

An excellent new vacancy for international psychiatrists with experience in general adult psychiatry to join an NHS trust performing well against standards and with a lot to offer! 

The trust are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join an established Community General Adult service on either a fixed term or permanent basis. 

The trust is performing very well and the CQC rated them as 'good' in their recent inspection. 

Post overview:
In the community service you will contribute to assessment of patients referred to the service for diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders and support the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) members who carry out assessment of patients both within the team and in primary care.

The service is committed to a multidisciplinary approach to care and you will actively contribute to MDT meetings and formulation meetings and work in close collaboration with team members and other services.

The team describe themselves as a dynamic multidisciplinary team in community mental health services. You would join a wider group of supportive and motivated consultant psychiatrists across the region.

There is an excellent network of wider consultant support with weekly academic meetings and the opportunity to join a well-established consultant peer group for adult consultants in the area. The team has full time staff grade Dr support, and the team regularly hosts Specialty Trainees, GPVTS Trainees and higher trainees.

The post holder would be encouraged to be both a clinical and educational supervisor for trainees. Depending on your interests, there are also excellent opportunities to be involved in medical management, under/post-graduate teaching, develop areas of clinical interest. There are excellent links with the academic department and the potential for consultants to be involved in research.

The Health Boards adult mental health services are organised on a locality basis with each locality having a clinical lead, head of nursing and locality manager. 

    WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 

    The department is a group of doctors that are very dynamic and forward looking.     The Mental Health Directorate provides adult mental health services, older persons mental health services, rehabilitation and recovery services, and substance misuse services. Adult inpatient beds are based at the Mental Health Unit. There is a 14 bed Acute Assessment Ward, two 14 bed Treatment Wards and a 6 bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit within the Mental Health Unit. The department\'s current medical caseload analysis shows that there around 350 cases in secondary care. 

    The post holder will be expected to provide senior clinical input to the assessment and management of patients, but not exclusively, managing outpatient clinics, collaborating in Care and Treatment Planning reviews, and offering advice and support to team members in managing patients. The post holder will facilitate post discharge reviews when appropriate, and participate in managerial and clinical team meetings.

    WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 

    The Rehabilitation Service is an innovative inpatient rehabilitation program with eleven wards. The service adopts a recovery-based holistic approach, led by enthusiastic multidisciplinary teams, to provide therapy and treatment promoting well-being, independence, and meaningful activity for patients with complex psychosis and related impairments. The service line is unique within the Trust, serving patients from eight Northwest London boroughs, and up to a third of its core business generates income. 

    The service\'s 5.5 WTE Consultant Psychiatrists, along with a full multidisciplinary team and additional support services like substance misuse and employment support, ensure comprehensive care for patients across all their rehabilitation sites. Admissions are based on suitability assessments and approval by relevant Intensive Care Boards (ICBs), and the service collaborates closely with community mental health teams within the trust\'s Boroughs and neighboring mental health trusts who place patients in the service. Their Rehabilitation Service aims to enable patients\' recovery and help them achieve their optimum level of independence during their rehabilitation journey.

    The post holder will have various duties, including providing clinical leadership to the team, acting as the Responsible Clinician for detained patients, and participating in care quality and business meetings. They will also be responsible for attending Mental Health Review Tribunals and Ministry of Justice hearings, assessing referrals promptly, and collaborating with care coordinators and placement panels for community placements. Additionally, the post holder will be involved in teaching and training junior doctors, medical students, and other clinical staff from different disciplines and offering support and advice to colleagues as needed.
