Job Description

Apply for a Full Time Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Speciality Doctor to join an established NHS team working in a generic community CAMHS setting. This is a great opportunity for experienced child & adolescent psychiatrist who is looking for a job within a service where they can establish themselves in the NHS, and grow their career towards being a consultant. CESR is supported. 

This is also a very exciting time to be joining the trust following a recent achievement of outstanding with their CQC rating and being one of just five mental health and learning disabilities NHS trusts in England to hold an outstanding rating.

WHAT IS THE NHS TRUST LIKE? 
Over the years the quality of the mental health services and the achievements of the staff have been recognised nationally including the “Mental Health Trust of The Year Award” for 2020 at the Health Service Journal Awards.

In a recent NHS Staff Survey the trust achieved the best score for safety culture amongst mental health and learning disabilities trusts throughout the country. WHAT IS THE CAMHS DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The clinics accept referrals from a number of sources including General Practitioners, Social Workers, Health Visitors and Consultant Paediatricians. Referrals are processed through SPA (the Single Point of Access). The teams are multi-disciplinary including Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Mental Health Nurses, Child Psychotherapists, Systemic Therapists and Social Workers. These teams work on an outpatient model and currently receive approximately 65 referrals per month.

WHAT IS LIFE LIKE IN THE REGION?
The Trust covers a mixed rural and urban area, including large and smaller towns. The area has excellent connections to London and the rest of the country. There are three major roads going North-South (the M1, the A1 and the A10). In addition the M25 passes through. Train services are also excellent with the journey time to London from some towns is less than 20 - 30 minutes.

Education is of a high standard. Currently more than 160,000 children are educated in the county’s network of 566 schools made up of 17 nursery schools, 426 primary schools, 9 middle schools, 78 secondary schools, 27 Special Schools and 8 Education Support Centres. Exam results and SATs continue to be above the national average and the ration of pupils to teachers is among the best in the shire counties. There is also a wide range of public/private schools to choose from.

You\'ll engage with both working-age adults and older adults, with responsibilities extending to police referrals and mental health law assessments during standard working hours, with on-call commitments.

    What is the health & community service like?

    Working in this location is professionally rewarding, offering high-quality, patient-centered care. Exciting developments include a new general hospital and a new mental health inpatient unit. The service fosters strong relationships between mental health, primary, and secondary care, promoting joint learning and teaching in a modern education center.

    What is the department & team like?

    The inpatient services are currently undergoing extensive refurbishment, including two wards for older adults. One ward offers 14 assessment beds for individuals over 65 experiencing functional mental health issues, with some flexibility for those under 65. The other ward provides 10 assessment beds for patients with dementia. Following the refurbishment, the latter ward will feature 8 acute assessment beds and 8 transitional/step-down beds for those with dementia or enduring mental health problems who cannot be supported in local nursing or residential homes.

    The Older Adults Community Mental Health Team (OACMHT) manages a caseload of about 300 patients, including new referrals triaged by the Crisis and Assessment team, providing both short-term treatment and long-term care coordination. The role involves providing medical support to the OACMHT alongside two other consultants and a staff grade doctor.

    The post holder will join an established team, comprising 2 WTE older adult consultants, 1.0 WTE Associate Specialist (Memory Assessment Service), 2.0 WTE staff grades (inpatient and community), and 1.0 WTE F1 doctor (inpatients and community). Dedicated administrative support includes a 0.5 WTE medical secretary and ward and team secretarial support.

    Continued Professional Development

    This position offers further training and accreditation within psychiatry, including CESR Portfolio Pathway support, access to specialty training, and the opportunity to develop sub-specialist interests. The post holder will have ample opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and experience through attendance at relevant courses, conferences, and locally organized CME events. The organization supports Continuing Medical Education with time and financial support, offering study leave of 30 days in 3 years and an annual study leave allowance. Regular case discussions, teaching sessions, and MDT supervision ensure ongoing professional development, meeting the Royal College of Psychiatrists\' CPD requirements.
