The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.
WHAT IS THE NHS TRUST / HEALTH BOARD LIKE?
The NHS Foundation Trust is the newly merged Trust comprising of two major trusts. With this, it brought together a combined workforce of over 13,000 staff, the new Trust delivers over 100 different clinical services across 10 different sites serving a core population of more than 500,000 people. With services from the neonatal intensive care unit to care of the elderly, the NHS Trust provide care to the people of their respective towns from the very beginning of life to its later stages.
The NHS Trusts' staff are the lifeblood of their Trust. They provide general diagnostic, medical and surgical services to the populations of their respective areas. These services are delivered from two of their sites, with some services delivered in community settings at a community hospital. They also provide specialist services such as children's services, cardiac and cancer services, and other smaller specialist services that are nationally commissioned, to a wider population through the south west and beyond.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The post requires independent upper and lower endoscopy, outpatient clinics, and an inpatient responsibility for the gastroenterology ward on a 1:3 rotational basis. The post includes a commitment to the emergency endoscopy rota plus GIM on call rota.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU?
For those overseas candidates wishing to complete CESR, this is a great opportunity. You will benefit from an established CESR programme, education and training department.
This post will have 10 programmed activities (PA). There will be an option to negotiate an increase to up to a maximum 12 PAs subsequent to appointment, to support additional activities such as research, educational supervision, or sub-specialist clinical work.
The structure of the post includes: 8.5 PAs for direct clinical care; this includes one PA for predictable on-call clinical work associated with general medical on call work.
- As part of the ongoing integration with Weston General hospital, this post is anticipated to also include future session/s (up to 2PA) at Weston General Hospital, in the specialty of the successful candidate, alongside current Respiratory colleagues at UHBW. This is subject to the integration process and job planning.
- 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activities (including CPD, appraisal, teaching, supervision, audit, research and non-clinical management).
- Up to 1 additional SPA session is available by agreement with the Chair of Division for consultants undertaking additional approved SPA activity (e.g. additional responsibilities in training, teaching, research, management or clinical governance).
- If a less-than-full-time work pattern is agreed, these commitments will be reduced pro-rata. In association with this post, 1 SPA session is available for work on the Weston merger: this could be undertaken by the appointee (in which case DCC PAs would reduce to 7.5), or by another consultant within the Division, depending on the interests of the appointee
