Job Description

Applications are open for experienced consultant Rheumatologists to join a University Hospital Trust in the South West of England. This opportunity will give candidates the chance to work in a progressive and supportive department whilst live in a friendly town surrounded by wonderful countryside and coast. 

The department specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of rheumatological conditions such as inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease and osteoporosis. 

CESR:

International candidates are welcomed and the trust has a great track record of supporting experienced consultants with CESR. 
You will find the service to be friendly, supportive and will invest in your career development. A bespoke plan of support will be created alongside your job plan. 

Department overview:

We are mainly an outpatient based service but offer our expertise to other specialties within the hospital and see patients on the wards. 

The team is well staffed, and the successful applicant will be working collaboratively with a full multidisciplinary team, including experienced Consultants, Middle Grades, specialist nurses & health care assistants, physiotherapists (including hydrotherapy), occupational therapists, a pharmacist, secretarial and administrative staff and a research team.

The Rheumatology clinics see both new referrals and follow ups with a dedicated early arthritis clinic.

Specialised clinics include: 

• A young adult clinic 
• An acute clinic were we see new patients suspected of having Giant Cell Arteritis 
• A lower limb combined clinic with our Orthopaedic Colleagues 
• A combined clinic with Dermatology 
• Two joint injection clinics per week on site 
• An osteoporosis clinic 

Location:

The trust is set within an excellent town, often voted as one of the top places to live and work in the country. being located on the coast, you will experience a positive quality of live, a slower pace and access to wonderful scenery. 

Cost of living is generally average, and property prices are good across the region.

    WHAT IS THE MEDICINE DIVISION LIKE? 

    The Department is reconfigured and modernised so that the patients are provided with high quality clinical care from pre-hospital and community based care to tertiary centre and home. This is being achieved in partnership with the Emergency Department team with support from the Hospital Management Team, with whom we have an excellent working relationship. The department is committed to developing an integrated and equitable medical service for patient care across the Trust\'s hospitals. This strategy will provide significant career development in a wide range of medical specialties and align to service delivery models across Grampian with increased opportunities for research, education and clinical management for those with an interest in these areas.  

    The post holders will join a well-established multi-disciplinary team and the successful candidates will be supported working in a modern, friendly and well equipped hospital.

There is particular opportunity to do this in Nephrology, Respiratory and Neurology and Stroke Medicine. Participation in research and educational activities will always be encouraged.

    Exciting opportunities for UK CCT qualified consultants, or non-UK trained consultants with or preparing for CESR. These Consultant Histopathologist positions are available with option to specialise in 1 or two areas including GI, Haematopathology, Hepatobilliary or Paediatrics. The Trust scored \'Good\' on it\'s most recent CQC.

    These are either permanent (substantive) roles or locum consultant posts dependent on specialist registration status, whilst those requiring consultant sign off to complete their CESR application process will be supported.

    WHAT IS THE NHS TRUST LIKE?

    The Trust provides a wide range of acute hospital services at their main 1000-bed hospital and provides a full range of acute clinical services to three populations of the South West of England. Specialist services such as neurosciences, renal care, urology, plastic surgery and burns treatment are provided and trust is a major specialist centres with links to other local regional hubs in cancer, pathology, dentistry and stroke.

    WHAT IS THE PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?

    The existing Cellular Pathology service was formed in 2016 following mergers of several services and now the main service is delivered from new, purpose-built accommodation on the main hospital site. The department does however continues to provide an Essential Services Laboratory at the neighbouring hospital. A new Laboratory Information System, Clinisys WinPath Enterprise, was implemented four years previously.

    The service currently runs with a full time WTE of 30 consultants, with currently two vacancies open, and the service is well funded, highly regarded and one of the better UK trusts to be joining in 2021.

    WHAT IS LIFE LIKE IN THE REGION?

    Based in a buzzing and culturally rich city, it is now a cultural and artistic hub for the UK offering everything that a UK city can offer. The City Centre is just 15 minutes away from the hospital, and has a great array of shops, theatres, restaurants and has an array of annual festivals and events including the International and local Fiesta and Art and Film Fairs. For those who cycle, the city boasts excellent cycling facilities and was chosen as England’s first cycling city in 2008 and voted the European green capital in 2015. In 2017 the areas was named ‘best place to live in Britain’ by the Times “the city is a worthy winner thanks to its ideal combination of extraordinary culture, impressive schools, buzzing culinary scene, exciting redevelopment and community spirit.”.

    For those moving with families it offers an excellent family lifestyle with green space, parks aplenty, rolling Somerset countryside and some excellent primary and secondary schools along with some of the UK\'s most well known universities. Cost of living is very low compared to other major cities in the UK whilst offering a fantastic lifestyle to compliment it.

    WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU?

    Flexibility is offered to Consultants and you can choose to specialise in one or two specialist areas. Year one will be focused on developing autonomous reporting and NHS experience, with the focus shifting to CESR support thereafter.
