Urology Consultant with Interest in Robotic Oncology Surgery

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Consultant in Urology to join a Health Board in North Wales that promotes equality and diversity. The post if suitable for overseas consultants, including candidates who are pursuing CESR. Specialists in Urology holding a specialist certification would be suitable for this post, based on experience entering at either Specialty Doctor or Consultant grade. 

Overseas applications from experienced Specialty Doctors and Consultants are welcomed. 

WHAT IS HEALTH BOARD LIKE? 
The Health Board is largest health organisation in Wales, that are developing an integrated health service which provides excellent care delivered in partnership with the public and other statutory and third sector organisations.

The Health Board have a budget of £1.3 billion and a workforce of over 17,000 staff. Providing primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for the population of around 700,000 across of North Wales. They continuously develop their workforce so that it has the right skills and operates in a research-rich learning culture.

Besides their three main hospital sites, they are also responsible for community hospitals, health centres, clinics, mental health units, community teams, GP practices and other NHS services provided by dentists, opticians and pharmacists. They plan to improve the health of the population, with particular focus upon the most vulnerable in our society.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 
The Department provides a full range of urological services both on the main site and outpatient clinics at a peripheral hospital of the NHS Board. The department provides comprehensive emergency and elective inpatient, day case and outpatient services to the catchment population. The Department enjoys the services of an excellent radiology unit. Three of the radiologists work closely with the Urology team and have an interest in interventional urology, helping with percutaneous access. The department has up-to-date radiology imaging, including a new MRI scanner in the unit. A renal dialysis unit is on site.

The department is a team of 6 Consultant Urologists, 1 Associate Specialist, 4 Middle Grade Urologists, 1 Junior Surgical Trainee, 3 Foundation Doctor, 1 Physician Assistant, 2 Uro-Oncology Nurse, and 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists. The department provides elective and emergency inpatient services, and an outpatient service. The department has a Clinical Audit Programme and other elements of their Clinical Effectiveness and Quality and Service strategies that is fully supported by the Health Board.

The post holder is expected to provide with consultant colleagues (as appropriate) a high quality and clinically safe service in the speciality to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. This includes programmed activities for Urology Services. The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).
