The ward currently has 27 beds on one of their sites, including four negative pressure side rooms, and provides acute non-invasive ventilation (NIV). There are also 14 beds on another site. The in-patient work also involves reviewing ward referrals. The respiratory firm receives a large number of ward referrals (20-25 per week) from other medical teams. The TB caseload is 100 notifications per year. The TB team is well staffed by 4 WTE nurses & 0.6 WTE case worker to provide latent TB screening, screening for immunosuppressive therapies, direct-observed therapy, community outreach as well as inpatient support.
The post holder is expected to lead the development of an outpatient sleep and ventilation service. The Department is an established high-quality multidisciplinary community & liaison Perinatal Mental Health Service across five Boroughs. The service specification is defined in line with the standards recommended by the RCPsych CR197, the Perinatal Quality Network and the Pan London Perinatal Mental Health Network. In the area served by the NHS Foundation Trust, there are four Maternity Units with a projected delivery rate of more than 6,000/year. In addition, there are approximately 4,000 deliveries in the private sector. The team have the capacity of enabling the delivery of evidence-based perinatal mental health care through a coordinated multidisciplinary specialist approach across maternity, primary and secondary care, tertiary specialist services, social care and voluntary sector.
The service operates at the interface between one of the Trust\'s hospital maternity unit and psychiatry with an outreach arm in the community in the form of home visits, satellite clinics, joint case management with caseload midwifery and a perinatal mental health specialist Health Visitor and NGOs. The service works closely with the liaison psychiatric team with clinical cross cover arrangements for annual and study leave. The Team Consists of: 0.5 WTE team manager, 0.5 WTE consultant psychiatrist in perinatal, 1 WTE specialty doctor (post advertised), 1 WTE Medical secretary, Band 4, 1 WTE Band 8a Psychologist, 0.8 WTE Band 8a Psychotherapist 7, 3 WTE band 7 specialist psychiatric Nurses, 1 WTE Band 6 OT, 0.6 WTE band 7 social worker, 0.6 WTE nursery nurse, and 0.6 WE peer support worker.
The post-holder will work with a medical team consisting of a Consultant Psychiatrist. The post-holder will contribute to the supervision of the trainees/medical students, clinical discussion and support for other non-medical MDT members and is expected to contribute and write perinatal care plans, safeguarding reports for social care and attend pre-birth planning meetings, discharge from maternity or MBU meetings and children and families safeguarding meetings.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Perinatal Mental Health Team (PMHT) is a long-established and highly-regarded service, resourced as a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team. The current medical staff comprise a 1.0 WTE and a 0.5 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist. They work alongside an 8a Team Manager, Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialists, Band 8a and Band 7 psychologists, and part-time Peer Support Workers, Nursery Nurses and Occupational Therapists. The team manages a caseload of around 170 patients, with 10-20 new referrals each week, screened in real-time, with urgent new patients seen on the same day if required. Patients are seen urgently on inpatient psychiatric and obstetric wards as needed, or in A&E.
The team meets for a short, problem-focused daily meeting which emphasises collaborative working and shared decision-making; clear accountability is balanced with a strong emphasis on maintaining a non-hierarchical atmosphere. The service works closely with the Perinatal teams and Mother and Baby Unit.
The post holder will help with the continued development of the perinatal psychiatry team. The post holder will provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management of issues relating to perinatal mental health. The post holder is expected to undertake all work in the context of the recovery approach which is emphasised across the Trust, placing the service user at the centre of planning and decision making.

In 2013, Bedfordshire had a population of 426,000 (161,400 in Bedford and 264,500 in Central Bedfordshire). While the population in Luton is at 208,000. WHAT IS THE GENERAL ADULT PSYCHIATRY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Department is a modern 17-bedded en-suite unit which comprises doctors, qualified psychiatric nurses, occupational therapist, psychologist and health care assistants, providing assessment and treatment predominately for older people with complex or acute mental health needs, enabling a return to independent living wherever possible. The team accommodates all Older Adult services, including CMHT, Home Treatment Service and Memory Service. On average, there are approximately four new admissions and approximately four discharges per month. The majority of patients are admitted from their usual place of residence with a small percentage coming from the general hospital.

The post holder is expected to assess and manage patients (including investigations and treatment) with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions including dementia and psychiatric functional illnesses in the inpatient setting and ensuring that interventions are provided in a sensitive, accessible and culturally appropriate way. The post holder is required to provide clinical leadership within the multi- disciplinary team and clinical advice or supervision where needed.
