Job Description

An award winning NHS Foundation Trust is currently looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Persons Psychiatry. This is an outstanding opportunity for experienced Consultants Psychiatrists with experience in Old Age psychiatry, who are looking to grow their career in the NHS. The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.

WHAT IS THE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST LIKE?

Formed on the 1st of April 2020, the Trust is on a mission to deliver outstanding care through a culture of listening, learning and continuous improvement. They aim to provide the right care for their patients, carers, colleagues and communities. The NHS Trust provides mental health services to all age ranges and supports people with a range of mental health problems whether they are mild, moderate or severe.

The Trust's merger with another excellent Foundation Trust will enable better support & care for the health and needs of the population, as well as to provide consistent and accessible services across the county, as one merged organisation. The NHS Trust will be running community services, mental health and learning disability services with a workforce over 9,000 people who deliver support for the patient services. It also contributes to training the next generation of nurses, doctors and therapists and conducts research that will help to advance clinical practice and treatments in the future.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?

The Service is divided into four Teams, and there is also a Central County Wide Memory Assessment service (which undertakes much of the MAS work) and also a County Wide Intensive Dementia Support Service IDSS (which acts as a Crisis/Home Treatment Team for those with Dementia). The community mental health teams and memory services provide psychiatric community care to patients over the age of 65. There is also a much smaller group of patients under 65 years of age, with primary dementias who are also cared for by the older adults’ community mental health team.

The multi disciplinary team includes medical, nursing, Psychology, OT with clinical support workers and admin support staff. The overall team provides CMHT, MAS and Specialised Day Hospital services. The two services area covers GP practices in four towns and equates to approximately 11,000 patients over the age of 65 (CCG figures December 2017). The community mental health teams are part of wider integrated teams. Each team is co located with staff from district nursing and the integrated rehabilitation team (community OT and Physiotherapists).

The post holder will hold regular clinics, as well as undertaking domiciliary visits when required. The post holder will provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health needs of community patients in their community area, and work closely with the community teams to provide effective multidisciplinary collaborative care: this will include availability for consultation, regularly attending team meetings and providing case discussion and advice at the request of team members and / or team managers.

WHAT IS LIFE LIKE IN THE REGION?

The county has a GP registered population of approximately 525,000. There’s so much to explore from stunning beaches, green spaces, woodlands, lakes, a wide range of landscapes that includes a beautiful National Park. Whilst tourism and agriculture are important, the county has a number of industrial concerns and a thriving local economy. The area provides access to the M5 motorway and a mainline intercity rail link. Travel connections are convenient with the main line station offering trains to London Paddington in less than 2 hours.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU?

There is real opportunity to progress through CESR at pace at this trust, with a strong desire for newly-qualified consultants to develop their specialty areas of interest and undertake in various cancer trials and research projects where possible.
