WHAT IS THE TRUST LIKE?
The trusts provides both acute hospital and community health care and was formed on 1 July 2018 from the merger of 2 of the main hospitals in the area. The new trust has nearly 10,000 staff and an annual budget in 2019/20 of over £715 million. Currently, The trust has two main acute hospitals in the East of England;
As a trust services include accident and emergency; critical care; planned medical and surgical care, consultant and midwifery-led maternity, neonatal and paediatric care; diagnostic and therapy services; and since October 2015 community hospitals and specialist community services . Community midwifery services are provided to the population of the area.
WHAT IS THE GERIATRIC DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The appointee will be joining a group of 6 other consultants in elderly medicine who provide a comprehensive service for residents of Northeast Essex. The department consists of 3 main clinical delivery groups - General Community – comprising Older Peoples inpatient and outpatient services, Specialist Community Services, and Integrated Therapies. The department operates a ward-based policy and have an average of 10-15 outliers on the 3 wards where the inpatient care are shared between the consultant in the department. There are rapid assessment clinics both at 2 sites offering GPs the opportunity for patients who require urgent assessment to be seen within 72 hours of referral. The department are also responsible for rapid access clinics, sub-specialty care in frailty, Orthogeriatrics, falls, and movement disorders.The older people’s physicians enjoy a close working relationship with the general physicians and there are good links with the old age psychiatry departments based at both the sites.

Consultants on the specialist register will be given autonomy and will freedom to develop their special interests, with access to additional leadership, research and teaching duties available for those that want it.
All consultants will receive a full induction process and will be involved in clinical audit and governance.
