The Geriatrics department is a small and manageable size with a 28 bedded inpatient ward and various other outlier beds.
Currently no formal geriatric outpatient services are offered with the exception of a Parkinson's / Movement clinic. The department will be looking to develop these in conjunction with skill set of a successful applicant.
The Geriatrics department comprises 3 consultants in elderly care medicine supported by 15 specialty registrars, 9 core medical trainees and FY2's and 9 FY1's working full shifts for GIM on call.
Each consultant will be offered a budget and 30 days of study and professional leave over each 3 year period to pursue their career development activities. Furthermore there is an active Postgraduate Medical Centre which acts as a focus for contract between doctors at all levels an in all disciplines.
Consultants will be encouraged to actively participate in teaching and training of juniors throughout their tenure.

A Foundation Trust in the South West of England are looking to appoint an Associate Specialist in Geriatric Medicine to provide a Proactive care of Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) to older surgical patients. This is a new appointment with the exciting opportunity for further service development and integrated working with the surgical teams.
With an already established POPS team comprising a Consultant Geriatrician and a POPS Advance Nurse Practitioner (band 8a) the POPS team are an essential part of the team on the surgical unit. Review frail, older adults admitted as an emergency under the care of the colorectal and upper gastrointestinal teams there is already the infrastructure in place to fulfill the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit criteria demonstrating MDT working with geriatrician support
Successful candidates will have the choice to work full time or completely flexible hours to fit in with any outside commitments and this is a great opportunity to help develop the POPS service to deliver the highest quality care.
Fully supporting international applicants the trust will offer full support for Tier 2 visa applications.

Working for a well established Teaching Hospital Trust, the successful applicant will join a team of 26 consultants across both hospitals in the trust. - share consultant responsibility on 1 of 8 acute/subacute HCOP wards, improve commitment to frail older people within the acute medical and frailty pathway
- Cover Older Person Assessment Unit (OPAU) and Ward
- Share support to Community geriatrics and various surgical liaison services

If successful you will join a friendly team of 12 Consultant Geriatricians providing Acute Frailty & General Medicine expertise; as well as supporting a dedicated Frailty ward which prides itself on providing high quality care for patients, relatives and carers, front door ED assessment for frailty and AMU support for frailty.
There is a potential for joining a 1 in 12 Acute Frailty on call rota (selected take for Frailty only).

- a brand new 23 bedded Acute Frailty Unit fully staffed by a Multidisciplinary Team.
- developing hot clinics / Ambulatory Care for frail individuals.
The post holder will join a Frailty team offering acute medical services to a catchment population of approximately 400,000.
The position is for 10 PAs with responsibility for:
- inpatient workload
- developing and contributing to sub-speciality clinics / pathways
- contributing to running and the development of Frailty Hubs in the community
- potential out of hours / weekend Acute Frailty On-Call cover (this can be discussed prior to or after joining)

The trust provides healthcare services for a population of around 280,000 and is a replacement post for a retiring doctor.
This is a 10 PA post and the successful applicant will take responsibility for elderly patients on the main ward blocks, will independently lead two outpatient clinics per week for general geriatric medicine with on-call commitments for unselected admissions (1 in 14).
In addition there will be three weekly ward rounds, daily consultant input and regular MDTs.
You will also be fully expected to take an active involvement with directorate teaching, management and clinical governance activities.
