A fantastic opportunity for specialist in geriatric or elderly care medicine to settle into their first consultant post and work towards their CESR application, if that is the intention.
The hospital will consider senior consultants with no UK experience who are not on the UK specialist register for geriatric medicine.
The Geriatrics department is a small and manageable size with a 28 bedded inpatient ward and various other outlier beds.
Currently no formal geriatric outpatient services are offered with the exception of a Parkinson's / Movement clinic. The department will be looking to develop these in conjunction with skill set of a successful applicant.
The Geriatrics department comprises 3 consultants in elderly care medicine supported by 15 specialty registrars, 9 core medical trainees and FY2's and 9 FY1's working full shifts for GIM on call.
Each consultant will be offered a budget and 30 days of study and professional leave over each 3 year period to pursue their career development activities. Furthermore there is an active Postgraduate Medical Centre which acts as a focus for contract between doctors at all levels an in all disciplines.
Consultants will be encouraged to actively participate in teaching and training of juniors throughout their tenure.
Requirements of this position are:

A Foundation Trust in the South West of England are looking to appoint an Associate Specialist in Geriatric Medicine to provide a Proactive care of Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) to older surgical patients. This is a new appointment with the exciting opportunity for further service development and integrated working with the surgical teams.
With an already established POPS team comprising a Consultant Geriatrician and a POPS Advance Nurse Practitioner (band 8a) the POPS team are an essential part of the team on the surgical unit. Review frail, older adults admitted as an emergency under the care of the colorectal and upper gastrointestinal teams there is already the infrastructure in place to fulfill the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit criteria demonstrating MDT working with geriatrician support
Successful candidates will have the choice to work full time or completely flexible hours to fit in with any outside commitments and this is a great opportunity to help develop the POPS service to deliver the highest quality care.

Working for a well established Teaching Hospital Trust, the successful applicant will join a team of 26 consultants across both hospitals in the trust. Geriatricians with interests in all subspecialties will be considered including frailty, orthogeriatrics, acute geriatrics, rehab and stroke medicine however some general medicine involvement is essential. Successful consultants must in time be included on the GIM on call rota.

The teams have been designed to meet RCPSYCH CCQI standards, and you will be working with RMNs, Psychologist, nursery nurses, occupational therapists, peer support workers, pharmacist and junior doctor in addition to service and team managers.
You will work with a large number of partners and stakeholders both in mental health services, universal services and specialist perinatal mental health midwives and health visitors.
The post holders will be expected to contribute to the on call rota out of hours and at weekend. This work will be remunerated appropriately. There is no requirement to be resident On Call.

WHAT IS THE HOSPITAL & TRUST LIKE?
The trust comprises two main acute hospitals with this role based at the larger, and better performing centre with affiliations to the local University. This post will not involve cross-site cover. The hospitals management and culture are renowned for being friendly, welcoming and supportive of ambition and career development.
WHAT IS THE HISTOPATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
You will be joining a supportive Histopathology team of six Consultants and two Associate Specialists. To support the service delivery the work of the department is divided on a daily rolling rota. The department is not currently subspecialised, however this may change, and the department are open to discuss circumstances where candidates may be interested in reporting two or three areas. The trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services. The department has recently consolidated its services onto the main site and now undertakes around 34,000 requests per annum of general histopathology from both sites.
The department are planning to undertake an extensive laboratory refurbishment over the next few years and they are also taking part in the North England Pathology Imaging Collaborative, one of the largest digital imaging projects in the world. Currently they do not routinely report digitally though it is something being worked on for the future. The laboratory is also in the process of implementing a new laboratory information system and a new immunohistochemistry system and end-to-end specimen tracking system.

The department has close links with the local Medical School offering interested candidates opportunities for undergraduate teaching or the development of management roles within the medical school.CESR support will be made available for candidates with excellent experience and FRCPath - whilst candidates new to the NHS but with specialist registration will be accommodated and supported through their early stages in the new healthcare system and workplace to ensure you settle in well to your new surroundings.
The department is not currently subspecialised, however this may change, and the department are open to discuss circumstances where candidates may be interested in reporting two or three areas.

You will be joining an NHS Trust rated ‘Outstanding’ not once but twice by the CQC and benefit from living and working in and around a beautiful and diverse city.
The NHS Trust is active in research, including the current Covid trials, and the post-holder would be encouraged to take part in its research programme. As a large teaching Trust, the post will also suit those with an interest in medical education and supporting junior doctor training.
WHAT IS THE RESPIRATORY MEDICINE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The successful applicant will join the Respiratory Department at a large Royal Infirmary.
The posts will involve general respiratory inpatient care; participation in the Acute Medical Unit respiratory in-reach and “Hot” Clinic consultant rotas; sharing a weekly bronchoscopy list; and providing general respiratory and sub-specialist respiratory clinics. Consultant appointees would also take part in the Acute Medical Take consultant rota.
The successful applicants will be encouraged to develop sub-specialist services according to her/his interests and expertise. The service can support all Respiratory sub-specialist areas, in particular including Sleep and NIV, COPD, Bronchiectasis and Lung Cancer.
The covid-19 epidemic has required large-scale reorganisation of the work pattern of all the physicians within the Division of Medicine, and so future work patterns may well change. However the essential elements will include:
- General respiratory inpatient care, at consultant level with supervision of more junior medical staff – including care of general respiratory and respiratory high care patients, AMU in-reach and Hot Clinic cover. These activities are undertaken in rotation with the other respiratory consultants.
- Physician of the Day cover for acute medical take
- A shared bronchoscopy list
- Respiratory clinics – general respiratory and sub-specialist clinics depending on the skills and interests of the appointee.
The Respiratory Department provides a full range of respiratory services to the population of Central and South Bristol and adjacent rural areas (core catchment population approximately 400,000). They also provide regional tertiary services including cystic fibrosis, sleep, domiciliary ventilation, TB management, and complex pulmonary physiology assessment. The pre-covid bed base included two dedicated respiratory wards plus a 14-bed respiratory high care area, fully equipped for acute NIV, and 10 cubicles for Cystic Fibrosis care; however the epidemic has required large-scale reorganisation (including the development of a separate 30-bed covid-19 high care area) and the future configuration of inpatient beds may well be different. There is a dedicated Respiratory Outpatients clinic including five consulting and two treatment rooms, and five respiratory physiology test rooms including an exercise laboratory. WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU?
For those overseas candidates wishing to complete CESR, this is a great opportunity. You will benefit from an established CESR programme, education and training department.
This post will have 10 programmed activities (PA). There will be an option to negotiate an increase to up to a maximum 12 PAs subsequent to appointment, to support additional activities such as research, educational supervision, or sub-specialist clinical work.
The structure of the post includes: 8.5 PAs for direct clinical care; this includes one PA for predictable on-call clinical work associated with general medical on call work.
- As part of the ongoing integration with a neighbouring General hospital, this post is anticipated to also include future session/s (up to 2PA) at a neighbouring General Hospital, in the specialty of the successful candidate, alongside current Respiratory colleagues. This is subject to the integration process and job planning.
- 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activities (including CPD, appraisal, teaching, supervision, audit, research and non-clinical management).
- Up to 1 additional SPA session is available by agreement with the Chair of Division for consultants undertaking additional approved SPA activity (e.g. additional responsibilities in training, teaching, research, management or clinical governance).
- If a less-than-full-time work pattern is agreed, these commitments will be reduced pro-rata. In association with this post, 1 SPA session is available for work on the merger: this could be undertaken by the appointee (in which case DCC PAs would reduce to 7.5), or by another consultant within the Division, depending on the interests of the appointee

Consultant in Medical Oncology with interests in urological, melanoma, acute oncology (CESR support)
CESR supporting role available for consultants in medical oncology for a trust in the North of England. The trust will support overseas candidates not on the specialist register and is open to interests in a number of different cancer sites.

IMG Connect are looking for UK based General & Acute Medicine middle grades, either on substantive or fixed-term contracts for positions in the South West of England. The trust is rated outstanding in their CQC and these posts will support training, development, CESR ambitions and specialisation further down the line in medicine sub-specialties such as respiratory medicine, neurology, stroke, gastroenterology etc.
