We are looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist to a Crisis & Assessment Team role in the Channel Islands, a UK territory sitting off the coast of France and just a 1 hour flight from London. This job presents a great opportunity to advance your medical career in the UK.

The Department & Team
The Crisis and Assessment Team (CAT) serves as the primary gateway to adult and older people\'s mental health services, conducting assessments in the community and emergency settings, alongside medical reviews. They collaborate closely with law enforcement, responding to Adult Protection Notices and coordinating mental health law assessments. This role within the CAT focuses on streamlining referrals, providing short-term crisis interventions, and ensuring individuals receive appropriate ongoing care. You\'ll engage with both working-age adults and older adults, with responsibilities extending to police referrals and mental health law assessments during standard working hours, with on-call commitments.

The anaesthetic department also provides a consultant led acute pain service, a pre- operative assessment service as well as support for anaesthetics in remote areas such as endoscopy and radiology. The pioneering techniques in surgery and pain control that have been developed whilst treating military patients are used for civilian surgery in the UK and elsewhere, and are progressed through the Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC).
With almost 200 Consultants based over the four main hospital sites, the trust currently provide anaesthetic and ICU cover in excess of 400 sessions/week across both the Trust and those hospitals with which we have service level agreements.

What is the Histopathology department like?
This trusts Cellular Pathology department encompasses both Histopathology and Cytopathology and provides Histology and Non-Gynae Cytology services to the local NHS Trust and the local General Practitioners in the area. The Gynaecological cytology service has been centralised at a nearby hospital.
The department is equipped to a high standard. Large block processing facilities are available and are used as necessary for a variety of cases including radical prostatectomies. The department has an up-to-date range of automated processing and staining equipment and there is an automated immunostaining machine (Ventana Ultra, Roche Diagnostics) with a wide range of antibodies available. With the support of our Immunohistochemistry specialist, this area of diagnostic work is continuing to undergo expansion. Immunofluorescent facilities are also available.
The new Histopathology consultant will be joining a team of 4 Consultant Histopathologists (some of whom also cover diagnostic Cytology), 1 Associate Specialist, 1 Specialty Doctor and 4 full-time Histopathology Registrars. If they so wish, the new consultant can also be responsible for reporting one quarter of the non-gynaecological cytology workload in conjunction with the other 3 Consultants who undertake cytology.

This trust is committed to ongoing training and support of consultants, there is a structured two year programme of induction and leadership development. Every consultant appointed is offered a choice of mentors, meeting with them on a regular basis. It also has an excellent reputation for education, as measured by its GMC Survey and regular responses from trainees and medical students. The department is part of the four divisions the NHS Trust has organised. The respiratory department is a fully integrated department: they provide a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient specialist services from their two acute sites. They also have a multi-disciplinary integrated respiratory team (RESPS) providing services across both acute sites, in the community and in the patients homes. The inpatient respiratory care is based on their main ward, which is a 28 bedded medical ward with a high turnover of acute respiratory and medical patients.
There are two consultants covering the ward in patients and referrals at any one time. The department meets daily with their multidisciplinary team attended by doctors in training, nursing staff, social service and physiotherapy teams to ensure efficient, safe, consultant led best practice and patient centred care. They incorporate medical education, audit and quality improvement into their ward rounds with their doctors in training to inspire and encourage learning. The appointee will be expected to help develop and enhance the general and respiratory medicine services for both inpatients and out-patients. The appointee is expected to be committed to the improvement of quality of clinical care in the Division and to participate in incident reporting, risk management, mortality reviews and Divisional Clinical Governance Meetings.

WHAT IS THE CELLULAR PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Cellular Pathology Department & Team is a group of people who are hard-working and are dedicated to supporting their colleagues. The department is well-equipped and has a dedicated MDM meeting rooms with video conferencing facilities. The MDMs are divided fairly amongst the consultants with only one pathologist attending each meeting and limited sub-specialisation.
The department has implemented the Warwick workload management system and this is used to allocate work to consultants. The post holder will play a full part in the provision of a diagnostic pathology service to the Trust and will be expected to contribute to the provision of a cancer pathology service for one or more anatomical sites, complementing the interests of the consultants already in post.
