A fantastic opportunity for specialist in geriatric or elderly care medicine to settle into their first consultant post and work towards their CESR application, if that is the intention.
The hospital will consider senior consultants with no UK experience who are not on the UK specialist register for geriatric medicine.
The Geriatrics department is a small and manageable size with a 28 bedded inpatient ward and various other outlier beds.
Currently no formal geriatric outpatient services are offered with the exception of a Parkinson's / Movement clinic. The department will be looking to develop these in conjunction with skill set of a successful applicant.
The Geriatrics department comprises 3 consultants in elderly care medicine supported by 15 specialty registrars, 9 core medical trainees and FY2's and 9 FY1's working full shifts for GIM on call.
Each consultant will be offered a budget and 30 days of study and professional leave over each 3 year period to pursue their career development activities. Furthermore there is an active Postgraduate Medical Centre which acts as a focus for contract between doctors at all levels an in all disciplines.
Consultants will be encouraged to actively participate in teaching and training of juniors throughout their tenure.

A Foundation Trust in the South West of England are looking to appoint an Associate Specialist in Geriatric Medicine to provide a Proactive care of Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) to older surgical patients. This is a new appointment with the exciting opportunity for further service development and integrated working with the surgical teams.
With an already established POPS team comprising a Consultant Geriatrician and a POPS Advance Nurse Practitioner (band 8a) the POPS team are an essential part of the team on the surgical unit. Review frail, older adults admitted as an emergency under the care of the colorectal and upper gastrointestinal teams there is already the infrastructure in place to fulfill the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit criteria demonstrating MDT working with geriatrician support
Successful candidates will have the choice to work full time or completely flexible hours to fit in with any outside commitments and this is a great opportunity to help develop the POPS service to deliver the highest quality care.

Supportive role for geriatricians or elderly care physicians looking to attain CESR and work as NHS Consultants.
Working for a well established Teaching Hospital Trust, the successful applicant will join a team of 26 consultants across both hospitals in the trust. Geriatricians with interests in all subspecialties will be considered including frailty, orthogeriatrics, acute geriatrics, rehab and stroke medicine however some general medicine involvement is essential. The team is also supported by TB nurses and Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists, and a Thoracic Surgeon from Leicester.

WHAT IS THE RESPIRATORY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The service are looking for individuals able to run subspecialty respiratory medicine for a population of over 800,000. They wish to develop existing specialist sleep and NIV services and create specialty services in lung cancer and intervention, Bronchiectasis, lung infection, and asthma. Individuals with an interest in any of these sub-speciality areas would be considered.
Both of the NHS trust Hospitals have well established and progressive units providing a wide range of respiratory services to the local population. They pride themselves on their reputation for being a cohesive, supportive and friendly departments. The trust is developing a model of partnership bringing exciting new service development opportunities. To complement the established services they are looking to develop specialist respiratory services to serve the combined catchment areas of both trusts of over 800,000. Growing the department, the service are appointing x2 Consultants, one as a replacement post and one new post to expand our compliment to 6 full time Consultants. They aim to make further appointments in due course with the aim of working towards a 7 day service.
They have recently expanded their provision of undergraduate medical education on both sites and there are opportunities for appointees to be formally involved in their education programme. We would welcome applications from those with an interest in medical education. The Respiratory Consultants do not participate in the acute medical take rota, although any appointee may be able to join the rota if they wish.
You will have regular outpatient responsibilities (2 per week), a specialist service session or teaching, share of the 2 bronchoscopy/EBUS lists each week, partake in the department internal rotation covering respiratory inpatients and providing specialist ward referrals. Along with departmental colleagues, you will provide a specialist on call phone advice service for our ward based NIV unit. The trust has invested in a brand new high dependency respiratory unit with 8 negative pressure rooms. There is capacity to provide CPAP or NIV via 8 new V60 Philips ventilators. They have access to 4 Optiflow devices for high flow nasal oxygen. Each side room is equipment with a Fukuda DS monitor to ICU standard. A procedure room is being created on the new high dependency ward. The trust is currently building a new ambulatory care unit which our department will have access to. The trust is planning to increase ambulatory and interventional services, and would support service development in these areas. They currently have access at Ipswich to Bronchoscopy, Linear EBUS and a full pleural service. They are looking to develop physician led cancer diagnostics with ultrasound guided biopsy and radial EBUS.
