Exciting opportunities for UK CCT qualified consultants, or non-UK trained consultants with or preparing for CESR. These Consultant Histopathologist positions are available as General Pathology consultants, or instead with option to specialise in two or three areas. WHAT IS THE NHS TRUST LIKE?
The Trust provides a wide range of acute hospital services at their main 1000-bed hospital and provides a full range of acute clinical services to three populations of the South West of England. Specialist services such as neurosciences, renal care, urology, plastic surgery and burns treatment are provided and trust is a major specialist centres with links to other local regional hubs in cancer, pathology, dentistry and stroke.
WHAT IS THE PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The existing Cellular Pathology service was formed in 2016 following mergers of several services and now the main service is delivered from new, purpose-built accommodation on the main hospital site. The department does however continues to provide an Essential Services Laboratory at the neighbouring hospital. A new Laboratory Information System, Clinisys WinPath Enterprise, was implemented four years previously.
The service currently runs with a full time WTE of 30 consultants, with currently two vacancies open, and the service is well funded, highly regarded and one of the better UK trusts to be joining in 2021.

The Geriatrics department is a small and manageable size with a 28 bedded inpatient ward and various other outlier beds.
Currently no formal geriatric outpatient services are offered with the exception of a Parkinson's / Movement clinic. The department will be looking to develop these in conjunction with skill set of a successful applicant.
The Geriatrics department comprises 3 consultants in elderly care medicine supported by 15 specialty registrars, 9 core medical trainees and FY2's and 9 FY1's working full shifts for GIM on call.
Each consultant will be offered a budget and 30 days of study and professional leave over each 3 year period to pursue their career development activities. Furthermore there is an active Postgraduate Medical Centre which acts as a focus for contract between doctors at all levels an in all disciplines.
Consultants will be encouraged to actively participate in teaching and training of juniors throughout their tenure.

A Foundation Trust in the South West of England are looking to appoint an Associate Specialist in Geriatric Medicine to provide a Proactive care of Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) to older surgical patients. This is a new appointment with the exciting opportunity for further service development and integrated working with the surgical teams.
With an already established POPS team comprising a Consultant Geriatrician and a POPS Advance Nurse Practitioner (band 8a) the POPS team are an essential part of the team on the surgical unit. Review frail, older adults admitted as an emergency under the care of the colorectal and upper gastrointestinal teams there is already the infrastructure in place to fulfill the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit criteria demonstrating MDT working with geriatrician support

This is subject to the integration process and job planning.
- 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activities (including CPD, appraisal, teaching, supervision, audit, research and non-clinical management).
- Up to 1 additional SPA session is available by agreement with the Chair of Division for consultants undertaking additional approved SPA activity (e.g. additional responsibilities in training, teaching, research, management or clinical governance).
- If a less-than-full-time work pattern is agreed, these commitments will be reduced pro-rata. In association with this post, 1 SPA session is available for work on the Weston merger: this could be undertaken by the appointee (in which case DCC PAs would reduce to 7.5), or by another consultant within the Division, depending on the interests of the appointee

WHAT IS THE ACUTE MEDICINE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Team consists of Patient Support Workers, HCAs, Staff Nurses, a team of Deputy Sisters, two experienced Ward Sisters and four Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) that are enthusiastic, hard working and always working closely together.
The Team has approximately 20 patients per ward round. The current rota is annualised with an eight week rolling pattern. There are two Acute Physicians running the AMU and acute take 0800-2030 with SDEC Consultant cover 0900-1700daily during the week. The weekend frequency is currently 1 in 8. SPA is organised flexibly. The AMU at Poole Hospital is a 30 bedded assessment and short stay unit for general medical and acute medical patients. It receives approximately 8000-9000 patients per year.
The post holder will lead and run the AEC Clinic, alongside the ANPs, during their allocated clinical sessions. The post holder will provide teaching and training to junior doctors, nurse practitioners and allied professions within acute medicine. The post holder will be working at both sites and will have access to a fully-equipped Consultant’s office which includes all the required information technology.

A large South-Western Trust are looking for a full-time, permanent Medical Oncology Consultant specialising in Breast, Lung and Acute Oncology. The trust is considering either UK or Overseas trained doctors in other specialties. The trust will support with CESR.

THE ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT AND TEAM:
The Acute Oncology team is a successful proactive team within the Trust in which all patients entering the trust with a cancer related issue or a cancer treatment related issue are seen and reviewed within 24hrs. The specialty of acute oncology lies at the heart of cancer care. It links admitting acute, general specialty teams with palliative care, radiology, histopathology, nursing, and social care. By doing so, it drives forward care that is finely tuned to patient need, ensuring that appropriate management takes place in the right setting. The Trust was the first DGH to implement a successful 7 day service nationally.
Day to day inpatient care remains with the admitting teams, but the acute oncology team aims to provide input to all oncology patients where this is required. Daily consultant ward rounds take place Monday to Friday, to review newly admitted patients with cancer-related problems. An average ward round consists of 10-12 patients. There is a nurse-delivered acute oncology service at weekends. Out of hours oncology cover is provided.
Clinic work is shared between 11 visiting consultants and a part-time associate specialist. Registrars attend some clinics.
We have an active research department supported by a team of Research Nurses and Clinical Trials Practitioners who work across Trust Hospitals. The recruitment of patients into clinical trials is considered to be an essential part of this post. The department supports NIHR adopted studies both academic and commercial. You will collaborate with Research & Innovation department to enhance the oncology research portfolio.

The role offered is 10 sessions full time, 9 clinical (DCC) session and one supporting (SPA) session. There is no on-call commitment and the successful applicant would join a team of 4 consultant breast radiologists and a consultant breast radiographer delivering a symptomatic and screening radiology service.
The unit is modern and energetic, purpose built and well organised. The main role would be to work in symptomatic one-stop clinics, breast assessment clinics, to film read for the NHS Breast Screening Programme (must have a proven track record of doing this), localisation, MDT presentation, with the option to assist in reading Breast MRI studies.

The stroke service admits approximately 500 patients per year, and sees about 800 patients per year in the fast track TIA clinic. Hyper-acute and acute stroke is managed in the Bristol Royal Infirmary on the current 26 bedded acute stroke unit (ASU) which includes 10 hyper-acute beds. Patients requiring longer inpatient rehabilitation are cared for in the 16 bedded dedicated stroke rehabilitation unit.

- Consultant experience in Stroke Medicine
- Within 6 months of CCT or CESR
- Specialisation in Stroke Medicine
- MRCP
