Medical and Clinical Oncologists - all Specialty interests considered

Job Description

A Large Welsh NHS Trust is looking for full-time, permanent Medical and/or Clinical Oncology Consultants across all specialty interests. The trust is considering either UK or Overseas trained doctors. The trust will support with CESR.  

This is a high performing and supportive department for overseas doctors new to the NHS, or UK-based doctors looking to further careers in the UK. 

THE NHS TRUST: 

The Trust was established in 1956 and is in Wales. It is a highly respected specialist treatment, teaching, research and development centre for non-surgical tertiary and secondary oncology services. Primarily caring for patients across south-east Wales, VCC also treats patients requiring highly specialised care from all regions of Wales. 

The Trust is proud of its reputation for providing a first-class patient experience where the patient is at the centre of everything. The Trust has created an environment of compassion and care, where staff go the ‘extra mile’ to meet the needs of patients, families, and carers. The first Cancer Patient Experience Survey produced by the Welsh Government and Macmillan Cancer Support highlighted the Trust as the ‘best in Wales’. 

THE ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT AND TEAM:  

The Trust is responsible for all NHS SACT services for adults with solid tumours in Southeast Wales. The majority (60%) of day-case services are delivered at the Trust while there is a long-established network of outreach sites in LHB acute and community hospitals and based with 3rd-sector providers. 

Based on its professional and public reputation for delivering excellence in terms of patient and staff experience, Welsh Government has selected this Trust to lead the ‘Transforming Cancer Services’ programme in SE Wales and to build a new hospital.  There will be a £200million pound development which will open in 2025.  It will be nearly twice the size of the current hospital and will be equipped with brand new, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities 

The newly developed Trust will have 10 new linear accelerators, 2 CT and 2 MRI scanners to support precision image-guided and adaptive radiotherapy.  

There will be a dedicated clinical trials treatment unit including a 10-bedded early phase trials unit, and 2 isotope cubicles for molecular radiotherapy treatments. 

CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES:  

The Trust provides fantastic career development opportunities. the Trust will support the post holder in achieving appropriate CPD. The Trust also has a well-established oncology research department, providing the opportunity for the post holder to run and develop clinical trials. 

As a member of the Oncology Centre there will be a commitment to participate fully to the Trust wide approach to the delivery of cancer care.  This includes attendance at governance meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings and the practice of cross-referral with other site specialists. Oncologists are encouraged and supported to take leadership roles within the department, at an appropriate point in their development, in audit, governance, tumour-site specific groups, research and education.

South Wales has a lot to offer and has recently beaten off the likes of Manchester to be awarded the city with the “Best Quality of Life”. The city is easily accessible via the M4 motorway, which runs through the north of the city, making London a comfortable 2.5 hour drive away. It has rail links to the rest of the UK and has its own international Airport.  

For such a small area, only around 75km (46.5 miles) east to west and around 50 km (30 miles) from North to South, South Wales certainly fits a lot in - spectacular countryside, a National Park and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a beautiful coastline.

AM I ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE? 

To be eligible for this vacancy you will need the following:  

EEA Candidates:  

• Recognised European Medical Degree or Specialist Qualification in Clinical/Medical Oncology 

• IELTS or OET  

Non-EEA Candidates:  

• FRCR/MRCP Qualification 

• IELTS or OET 

UK-Based Candidates:  

• Experience at Consultant Grade
