Job Description

An opportunity to join a wonderful Midlands NHS Trust who are looking to expand the Stroke team in 2022 and beyond. The department are looking for a an experienced Stroke and specialist interests can be accommodated with some flexibility and this can be discussed further at interview. The trust is supportive of applicants looking to attain CESR, and the department have much recent success in helping consultants to progress to the specialist register. 

WHAT IS THE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST LIKE?

The Trust was formed on 1 July 2018 to bring together five hospitals and provides the highest quality care to patients across the Midlands. WHAT IS THE STROKE MEDICINE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Stroke Centre provides Stroke & TIA services for the NHS Trust. The geographical area served is wide and the population diverse. We currently treat around 1400 stroke patients per year. There are currently 6 stroke specialist consultants and one associate specialist within the Centre, supported by a team of junior doctors in training grades, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and a well-established multidisciplinary team of stroke specific allied health professionals.

Inpatient services are centred on the Acute Stroke Unit (with dedicated HASU beds). There are currently 59 inpatient beds within the Centre; there are plans to increase this total number contingent upon appropriate staffing across medical and nursing specialties. As an increasingly important regional provider of stroke services, The department is seeking to enhance their service quality and scope through the recruitment of dynamic, forward thinking, flexible and innovative consultant colleagues who share the team's commitment to providing the very best in care for the populations they serve.

The post holder will be responsible for the continuing care & treatment of patients in post holder's charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in the post holder's job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to & training the post holder's staff. The post holder is expected to participate in the clinical governance arrangements of the Trust & specifically within the Division including clinical audit, & research.

The hospitals are located in the north east midlands with great access to the North Westerly cities, Birmingham, London and the rest of the UK with its excellent national transport connections. The local region is beautiful, not far from the world-famous Peak District National Park and home to some of the UK’s most beautiful and dramatic countryside with nature, fresh air and wildlife being the cornerstone of this stunning part of the UK. It is not just a rural area however, and the area is well developed with two cities and several towns offering a feasible location for individuals to set up home.

In terms of location, this location offers the best of both worlds – city life on the doorstep of a stunning rural environment. We border the National Forest and we are in easy reach of the Peak District, offering outstanding natural beauty. Centrally located, they have excellent transport links to the rest of the country including major cities.

ELIGIBILITY
EEA Candidates:

  • Experience of working in Stroke Medicine
  • Board Certified Specialist in Stroke Medicine

Non-EEA Candidates:

  • Experience of working in Stroke Medicine
  • MRCP

UK based applicants

  • Experience of working in Stroke Medicine
  • Within 6 - 12 months of completing CCT
