Offered either on substantive or fixed-term contracts for positions in the South West of England, these posts will support training, development, CESR ambitions and specialisation further down the line in medicine sub-specialties such as respiratory medicine, neurology, stroke, gastroenterology etc.

Department and Trust overview:
This is a fixed term post joining an established and growing team. The post will involve responsibility for stroke prevention, hyper-acute and acute stroke care, including proactive in-reach, stroke rehabilitation and a commitment to the General Medicine on call rota.
The Stroke Team are part of the Medicine for the Elderly Department, but suitably qualified applicants from any parent speciality are encouraged to apply.
The department provides a full range of services to a population of approx 400,000.
The stroke service admits approximately 500 patients per year, and sees about 800 patients per year in the fast track TIA clinic. Hyper-acute and acute stroke is managed in the Bristol Royal Infirmary on the current 26 bedded acute stroke unit (ASU) which includes 10 hyper-acute beds. Patients requiring longer inpatient rehabilitation are cared for in the 16 bedded dedicated stroke rehabilitation unit.

Overview of the department and post:
The Stroke service is highly performing and it is staffed by a dynamic team. The creation of this post is one of a number of initiatives to meet growing demand within the department, expanding the service. Over the past year, activity from the Emergency Department has increased and a greater number of patients are receiving treatment and rehabilitation on the Stroke Unit (SU).
The post holder will work across both the Hyper-acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and SU and, together with the multi–disciplinary team, provide and further develop care for stroke and other neurovascular patients from the local and regional catchment areas.
Other exciting developments across the service include the addition of a Stroke Specialist Registrar post together with an increase in junior doctor staffing levels, 7 day therapy for patients on both the HASU and SU and provisions for King’s College Hospital to become part of a 24:7 thrombectomy network in London.
You will work in all the major areas of Stroke Medicine that include the hyper acute management of TIA and Stroke, acute care, rehabilitation and prevention. You will work closely with colleagues in the allied specialties of neuroradiology, neurosurgery, neurorehabilitation and vascular surgery.

Department overview:
The Paediatric Neurology service provides tertiary and secondary care for children with neurological conditions.
It is a large busy service with a wide catchment area, serving a large catchment population. The service also provides peripheral outreach clinics on a regular basis to all the district general hospitals within the region.
You will find the service to have all of the modern state of the art facilities expected of a high performing and established department.
They provide specialist neurorehabilitation to patients across the region and are the major contributor to three operational delivery networks including neuromuscular, major trauma and neurosciences.
They are a neuromuscular centre of excellence and the lead centre for the CDKL5 Rare Diseases Collaborative Network. It is also one of four Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service centres in England.
Details of the post:
You will be expected to provide neurology cover for the complex movement service which incorporates intrathecal baclofen therapy (ITB), deep brain stimulation (DBS), selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR), and botulinum toxin injection.
And will also be required to provide neurology cover for the paediatric neurorehabilitation service.
Further sub-specialisation can be discussed during interviews, and the service are open to creating a flexible job plan to suit experience and interest.
