WHAT IS THE ACUTE ADULT INPATIENT WARD LIKE?
The Adult Acute Inpatient Ward is an acute admission ward based at the Trust Clinic, Campus for Ageing and Vitality in the City. The ward has 20 beds providing assessment and treatment by a multi disciplinary team. The service is for men over the age of 18 years with a mental illness who require assessment and treatment in hospital.

Patients are also offered the following treatments and therapies:

  • Occupational therapy – helps with individual or group activities and daily living skills
  • Physiotherapy – help with mobility or movement problems or by providing access to gym facilities
  • Psychology – this is dependent on your need at the time of admission
  • Exercise therapy
  • Medication
  • Art therapy

Acute wards for adults of working age and psychiatric intensive care units across the NHS Trust were all rated as 'good' by the CQC. The services were found to be providing effective care. All patients had a care plan which was regularly updated and patients had access to a range of care and treatment options which were in line with national guidance. Staff are supervised effectively and have access to additional specialist training, including CESR support. 

Staff in the department and across the general adult services are caring. Feedback from patients and carers was consistently positive about staff attitudes. The service was organised in a way that ensured staff focussed on interacting and engaging with patients as opposed to administrative tasks. The service is providing care in a way that was responsive to people’s needs. Beds are managed appropriately to ensure that people could access the service when they needed it.

The service is also very well-led. There is a stable management team with managers at all levels who have the skills, knowledge and experience to perform their roles and support new members of the psychiatry team. Ward managers and senior managers are approachable, ensuring you will be well respected, supported and valued. 

WHAT IS LIFE LIKE IN THE AREA? 
The ward is based in the urban capital of the North East of England and is the beating heart of the region. Friendly, fun and with a great cost of living, this city has long been an attractive place to live for IMGs, UK trainees, families and young professionals. The Trust is located in the North East of England and Cumbria which is an area of outstanding natural beauty, containing national parks, ancient heritage sites and major cities supported by excellent national and international transport links. The area is one of the best value regions for housing and offers an excellent standard of living with accomplished schools and Universities.
