Job Description

An excellent opportunity to join a top performing emergency medicine department in the South West of England. This trust is looking to appoint an SAS (Middle Grade) in Emergency Medicine. 

Department overview:
The Emergency Department is a modern progressive Department supported by a dedicated team of Consultants, who provide shop floor leadership from 0800 – 2300 hours, 365 days a year. The Department enjoys round the clock Middle Grade cover and a 16 person Junior Doctor rota, with 3 SHOs overnight and is supported by a team of Emergency Nurse Practitioners.

Trust overview:
The Trust has recently invested heavily in their systems and processes, as well as their resources, helping them to achieve an excellent 90% target. It is described as an enjoyable, productive and rewarding environment in which to work.

The Department is a Major Trauma Unit and employs a 24hr Consultant led Trauma Team. 

Training and CESR:
There is an excellent Departmental Educational Programme for Middle Grade Doctors.

CESR is fully supported, with very recent and successful experience in supporting middle grades to complete this process. The consultant leads are determined to ensure each appointee has a career plan and set of goals in place for CESR. 

In fact, the department has established a reputation for supporting those interested in pursuing the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) and a number of the existing middle-grade cohort are being mentored in activities to complete this. Applications are actively encouraged from others wishing to explore this route.

Local area:
The hospital is based in a historic cathedral city in the heart of the South West of England. You will find numerous sporting and cultural events and activities, along with access to the many beaches and open countryside.
It is situated as it is on the motorway network, and enjoys excellent travel links with the rest of the United Kingdom, including being 2 hours from London by train. 

Requirements for the role: 
UK based applicants:

  • at least 2 years post graduate experience in ED

EEA applicants:

  • 4 years post graduate experience in ED

Non-EEA candidates:

  • Full MRCEM
  • 4 years post graduate experience in ED
