Job Description

An opportunity for an Acute Medicine Consultant to work for an established NHS Trust that prioritises the highest quality care and experience for their patients. 

This is a great opportunity for overseas Acute Medicine Doctors who want to establish themselves in the NHS, and grow their consultant career. The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.

WHAT IS THE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST LIKE? 
They were established as an NHS Trust in April 1991, and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008. Since then, the Trust provides a good quality, safe, and effective healthcare to the people of several counties. The Trust manages three different hospitals/centres. The Trust is currently responsible for the provision of a range of community services for people across several areas, working in partnership with local GPs and another NHS Trust.

The NHS Trust employs almost 5,000 members of staff, have 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health. The Trust established a campaign that encourages all staff, regardless of their role, to introduce themselves to the patients and visitors whom they come in contact with and they feel strongly that they should support the campaign to ensure this basic human touch is adopted by all.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 
The Department is a team of people who consistently provide a caring, professional, high quality, efficient clinical service for patients who present with an acute medical condition to secondary care from the community, Emergency Department or following a clinic attendance. They values safety, respect & efficiency - which they believe will empower staff to deliver a high quality service. 

The Department currently has three distinct geographical areas that work together to provide Acute Care:

  1. AMU (Non-Covid) Houses, that currently has 32 beds and is the direct admissions area for ED and GP referrals that are not suitable for the Ambulatory Care Unit. There is a dedicated ward pharmacy team and there is access to Mental Health Liaison, physio and occupational therapy and a complex discharge support team.
  2. AMU (Covid), that has 22 side rooms for patients who present with symptoms that may be Covid, and 6 side rooms that can support confirmed Covid positive cases. There is a dedicated pharmacy and therapy support.
  3. ACU, which is located in a dedicated outpatient unit situated halfway between AMU (Covid) & AMU (Non-Covid). It currently has assessment trolleys, and chairs allowing it to house up to 18 patients. The Consultant is supported by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner team and Physician Associates.

The successful candidate will join a team of 4WTE substantive Consultants on a fixed term basis. The post holder is expected to ensure that management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients with complex needs, liaise closely with the Divisional and Service Managers, and the Associate Medical Director, to ensure that targets are achieved and other things.

The NHS Trust is located in North West England, where it is historic, ceremonial and beautiful. There are parks, open spaces & museums amongst many other things. If you enjoy a walking with beautiful scenery, you can go to several parks where it is also allowed to go cycling & horse riding. There are several schools to choose from! 

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU?
The Trust supports the requirements for continuing education as laid down by the Royal College and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. In addition, the post holders will be required to attend mandatory and essential training in line with Trust policy. Their ultimate aim is to improve the quality of health care for the population covered by the local health care services, by PGMDE (which focuses on training of junior staff) and CME (which targets senior staff both Consultant and non-Consultant career grade staff).
