Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join a dynamic Neurology team. This NHS job seeks a professional who can collaborate closely with the management team to drive the service forward, support regional integration, and develop a specialist service. The Neurology department has a budget for four consultants and employs six specialist nurses (two in Epilepsy, two in Multiple Sclerosis, and two in Parkinson’s Disease). Strong links exist with the Neurorehabilitation and Neurophysiology teams.

All consultants contribute to the general Neurology outpatient service, which includes a fast-track pathway for patients with suspected seizures, alongside subspecialty clinics for various conditions. This position offers CESR support for aspiring consultants and experienced neurologists seeking career development in the UK. Overseas applications from experienced Specialty Doctors and Consultants are welcomed.

The Neurology Department & Team
The Neurology department operates with a budget for four consultants and includes six specialist nurses (two in Epilepsy, two in Multiple Sclerosis, and two in Parkinson’s Disease). Strong links exist with the Neurorehabilitation and Neurophysiology teams.

Neurology staff provide a wide variety of outpatient clinics, with demand for services steadily increasing over the past decade. Currently, the department sees approximately 3,600 new patients each year. All consultants contribute to the general Neurology outpatient service, which includes a fast-track pathway for patients with suspected seizures, along with subspecialty clinics for various conditions. On average, the consultant team also manages 30 inpatients per week across the hospital.

Access to Neurophysiology services is excellent, with an experienced and fully staffed department supervised by a consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist. The department is expanding its range of services to include intraoperative spinal monitoring, quantitative small fibre sensory testing, and 24-hour home video EEG recording.

Career Development & Opportunities Available

The department supports the consultants with opportunities to support the multi-professional teaching and development along with active participation in teaching programmes for Foundation, IMT, GP, Higher Specialty Training. 
Consultants on the specialist register will be given autonomy and will freedom to develop their special interests, with access to additional leadership, research and teaching duties available for those that want it. 
All consultants will receive a full induction process and will be involved in clinical audit and governance.

The county of local town are a fantastic location for doctors and their families wishing to live in the South East of England, close to London but without the high cost of living and property that is associated with life in London. You will find all the amenities required for a family in the region, with excellent schools, transport links and availability of housing both short and long term. You can live in the pretty and historic local town, or in the various little towns and villages dotted around the region. ARE YOU ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE?

EEA Candidates:

  • Experience of working in Neurology
  • European Specialist Qualification 

Non-EEA Candidates:

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Experience of working in Neurology

UK based applicants

  • Experience of working in Neurology
  • Within 6 - 12 months of completing CCT
