Job Description

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Consultant or Specialty Doctor with experience in Neuropsychiatry to join a team of dedicated and passionate psychiatrists. This NHS Trust moved to a state-of-the-art new hospital Building in May 2014, where the Older People's services are being prioritised to provide a full range of services from acute frailty assessment, a complex care bed-base through to 'transitional' post- acute care. The post is suitable for overseas neuropsychiatrists, including candidates who are pursuing CESR. Specialists in Neuropsychiatry, holding a specialist certification would be suitable for this post, based on experience entering at either Specialty Doctor, Specialist Grade (Associate Specialist) or Consultant grade.

Overseas applications from experienced Specialty Doctors and Consultants are welcomed.

The NHS Trust has an active appraisal and development programme, and all Consultant staff will take part in the process. The Trust has a list of identified mentors which is used to allocate a suitable support to new Consultants during the first year in post.

WHAT IS THE  DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?

The team is a mix of professionals from different disciplines including doctors in psychiatry and neurology, nurse therapists trained in physical and mental health, psychological therapy, physiotherapy & occupational therapy. They work with patients who have a mixture of different problems including mental illness associated with neurological diseases, epilepsy and non-epileptic attacks, functional neurological symptoms & neurological sleep disorders. They aim to provide high quality specialist assessment and treatment plans that incorporate expertise in both physical and mental health.

Being a part of the neuroscience department, they work closely with our colleagues in neurology and neurosurgery. They also provide neuropsychiatry support for the mental health liaison team for inpatients in other wards at Southmead Hospital. Their outpatient clinics take referrals from across the south west from general practitioners, neurologists, neurosurgeons and psychiatrists. Their inpatient service is situated within the Rosa Burden Centre. We have two inpatient beds for patients with neuropsychiatric conditions, and two inpatient beds for assessment of sleep disorders.

The post-holder will divide the management of the 29 Level 1, and 23 Level 2 in-patients, with the two Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine, depending on medical/psychiatric need. In addition to the session of NBT Outpatient Clinic work, there is a further session allocated to providing support for the community neurorehabilitation team based at the Head Injury Therapy Unit (HITU).
