WHAT IS THE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST LIKE?

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Department is a team of kind, fair & determined doctors. They support people with mild, moderate or severe learning disabilities who are registered with a GP, to help them live a valued life in their community. The team is made up of learning disability nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and psychologists. They deliver a specialist assessment and intervention plan, which focuses on health inequalities, behaviour, risk, sensory, communication and psychological needs. They work in partnership with families and agencies to achieve positive outcomes for the patients in their home, community and other relevant settings.
The Team accepts referrals from service users, carers, social workers, GP's and other health professionals. All referrals will go through a screening process which checks whether you are eligible to access the service. In previous years, their colleagues have picked them as winners of the Principles of Care Awards, for their work with Down's Syndrome and dementia patients. The population is around 191,830 (ONS Data). At present, around 4144 people, within the borough, have a known learning disability, with the five year forecast showing this to increase to 4236 by mid-2025. Currently, the outpatient case load is around 150.
The post-holder will work under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist and and Multi Disciplinary team, and will provide clinical support for the assessment and management of mental health problems on a routine and emergency basis. The post-holder will have the opportunity to rotate through different posts on a yearly basis according to service needs, offering opportunities for developing clinical expertise across a range of specialities. There will also be the opportunity to rotate to posts in Community Mental Health if this is of interest to you.

Manchester and the surrounding towns have wonderful geographical, cultural and ethnic diversity, with this opportunity situated between the City of Manchester and the Pennines National Park. The area enjoys excellent transport connections via the M62, and M60 motorways and the Metrolink tram system. The population of the borough is 227,312, of whom 62.1% are aged between 16 and 64 (OMBC 2013 mid-year estimate). Approximately 22.5% of the population are from ethnic minority groups.
