An excellent NHS job opportunity for an enthusiastic & motivated consultant in Older Adult / Geriatric Psychiatry to join one of the largest trusts in the United Kingdom. The NHS Foundation Trust is rated "Good" overall by the CQC in 2019. They have a wide range of physical and mental health needs. The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.

WHAT IS THE GENERAL ADULT PSYCHIATRY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 

The Department is a modern 17-bedded en-suite unit which comprises doctors, qualified psychiatric nurses, occupational therapist, psychologist and health care assistants, providing assessment and treatment predominately for older people with complex or acute mental health needs, enabling a return to independent living wherever possible. The team accommodates all Older Adult services, including CMHT, Home Treatment Service and Memory Service. On average, there are approximately four new admissions and approximately four discharges per month. The majority of patients are admitted from their usual place of residence with a small percentage coming from the general hospital. 

The Team is consist of:

  • 1 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist (this post)
  • 1 WTE Matron for all OA services
  • 1 WTE Ward Manager
  • 1 WTE deputy ward manager
  • 1 WTE Speciality Trainee; half time in CMHT and half on Oak Tree ward 2 WTE GP Trainee
  • 4 WTE RMN’s band 6
  • 11 WTE RMNs band 5
  • 11 WTE HCA
  • 1 WTE Occupational Therapist
  • 1 WTE Ward Clerk
  • 0.8 House keeper
  • Clinical OA Lead, band 8C, newly appointed

The post holder is expected to assess and manage patients (including investigations and treatment) with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions including dementia and psychiatric functional illnesses in the inpatient setting and ensuring that interventions are provided in a sensitive, accessible and culturally appropriate way. The post holder is required to provide clinical leadership within the multi- disciplinary team and clinical advice or supervision where needed.

Requirements for the role:

UK based candidates:

  • Specialist register, or within 6-12 months of completing CESR
EEA candidates: 
  • Specialisation in psychiatry
  • Consultant experience
Non-EEA candidates:
