An opportunity for a Respiratory Medicine Consultant to work for an established NHS Trust that prioritises the highest quality care and experience for their patients, as well as ensures the wellbeing of their dedicated staff, who have been exemplary throughout the pandemic. This is a great opportunity for overseas Respiratory Medicine Doctors who want to establish themselves in the NHS, and grow their consultant career. The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.
WHAT IS THE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST LIKE?
They were established as an NHS Trust in April 1991, and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008. Since then, the Trust provides a good quality, safe, and effective healthcare to the people of several counties. The Trust manages three different hospitals/centres. The Trust is currently responsible for the provision of a range of community services for people across several areas, working in partnership with local GPs and another NHS Trust.
The NHS Trust employs almost 5,000 members of staff, have 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health. The Trust established a campaign that encourages all staff, regardless of their role, to introduce themselves to the patients and visitors whom they come in contact with and they feel strongly that they should support the campaign to ensure this basic human touch is adopted by all.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Respiratory Medicine Team is a fully integrated team that works closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team that is involved with the care and support of patients with Respiratory illness. They are involved in both the acute management of patients admitted to Hospital as well as the chronic disease management of respiratory patients. They liaise closely with both primary and secondary care.
The Department has 5 services:
- Ward 5 - 32 Acute Respiratory beds; 2 Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) beds.
- Lung Function Testing (including patient flight assessments)
- Specialist Radiology Services
- Tuberculosis, Lung Cancer, Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Clinics
- Pulmonary Oncology Clinics
The Service covers all respiratory patients in the acute trust and community. The Team offers support to patients at home following acute exacerbation of their chronic respiratory condition that has required admission in to hospital. They provide support and information for lung cancer patients and palliative care for patients who have non-malignant disease. The team also provides education for all staff.
WHAT IS LIFE LIKE IN THE REGION?
The NHS Trust is located in North West England, where it is historic, ceremonial and beautiful. There are parks, open spaces & museums amongst many other things. If you enjoy a walking with beautiful scenery, you can go to several parks where it is also allowed to go cycling & horse riding. There are several schools to choose from! Its also close to Manchester, a very popular place to live or visit.
The Trust supports the requirements for continuing education as laid down by the Royal College and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. In addition, the post holders will be required to attend mandatory and essential training in line with Trust policy. Their ultimate aim is to improve the quality of health care for the population covered by the local health care services, by PGMDE (which focuses on training of junior staff) and CME (which targets senior staff both Consultant and non-Consultant career grade staff).
