A fantastic opportunity for specialist in geriatric or elderly care medicine to settle into their first consultant post and work towards their CESR application, if that is the intention.
The hospital will consider senior consultants with no UK experience who are not on the UK specialist register for geriatric medicine.
The Geriatrics department is a small and manageable size with a 28 bedded inpatient ward and various other outlier beds.
Currently no formal geriatric outpatient services are offered with the exception of a Parkinson's / Movement clinic. The department will be looking to develop these in conjunction with skill set of a successful applicant.
The Geriatrics department comprises 3 consultants in elderly care medicine supported by 15 specialty registrars, 9 core medical trainees and FY2's and 9 FY1's working full shifts for GIM on call.
Each consultant will be offered a budget and 30 days of study and professional leave over each 3 year period to pursue their career development activities. Furthermore there is an active Postgraduate Medical Centre which acts as a focus for contract between doctors at all levels an in all disciplines.
Consultants will be encouraged to actively participate in teaching and training of juniors throughout their tenure.

Working for a well established Teaching Hospital Trust, the successful applicant will join a team of 26 consultants across both hospitals in the trust. This role will provide excellent support to international doctors that are new to the NHS. All the hospitals support their new doctors with complete inductions, followed by a structured departmental induction, shadowing of an existing doctor.

WHAT IS THE TRUST LIKE?
The Trust in the East of England with two main acute hospitals and has traditionally scored highly on their CQC reports and cancer waiting targets. Now with the delays to cancer care caused by covid-19 there is a real urgency to recruit and help recitfy some of the cancer targets that are being missed.
WHAT IS THE ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
This role will be based at the larger of the two sites, and if successful you would be joining a team of eight oncology consultants in their specialist cancer unit on site. The consultants are currently supported by a specialty doctor team and are a team of nine consultants total.
The post holder will work according to an agreed job plan of 10 PA (40-hours per week) with a minimum of 8.5 PAs dedicated to Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 1.5 SPAs (supporting professional activities). There will also be some on call commitment to this role which can be discussed during interview. The role will embrace all aspects of Oncology including solid tumour chemotherapy and technically advanced radiotherapy (if a clinical oncologist).
The primary requirement is for Upper & Lower GI cancers and have an open interest to other tumour sites

This role is primarily looking for clinical consultants on the specialist register for oncology however they can consider applicants from medical oncologists with similar interests, or doctors not yet on the specialist register.

Consultants on the specialist register will be given autonomy and will freedom to develop their special interests, with access to additional leadership, research and teaching duties available for those that want it.
Regardless of specialism, all consultants will be fully integrated members of the oncology team and receive full induction process and will be involved in clinical audit and governance.
AM I ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE?

Medical & Clinical Oncology consultants looking to start or continue their careers in the NHS are invited to join excellent, large specialised hospital Trust on the South Coast of England. CESR candidates either completed or in process are invited to apply whilst candidates on the specialist will be warmly received of course. The Specialist Oncology Centre is based onsite and provides Cancer services to the local population in addition to parts of Sussex (Chichester) and the Isle of Wight. It is a friendly and integrated Centre, with enhanced treatment and facilities, nursing and pharmacy roles and encourages research and innovation.
They are looking to appoint both a clinical and medical oncologist and they can offer either permanent consultant roles or locum consultant roles with support for CESR depending on whether you are recognised as a specialist in the UK already. Additionally, these roles can cater for your cancer site interests amongst their most needed areas that include breast, brain tumour, colon, lung, head and neck and CNS.
The area combines the advantages of city life with rural villages and seaside towns, whilst the city centre itself is a thriving naval city, steeped in history, on the beautiful South Coast. It is ninety minutes from central London and has good transport links by ferry and airplane into Europe. Water sports facilities are excellent with access to the channel and sandy beaches are within easy reach. WHAT IS THE HOSPITAL & TRUST LIKE?
The trust comprises two main acute hospitals with this role based at the larger, and better performing centre with affiliations to the local University. This post will not involve cross-site cover. WHAT IS THE HISTOPATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
You will be joining a supportive Histopathology team of six Consultants and two Associate Specialists. To support the service delivery the work of the department is divided on a daily rolling rota. The department is not currently subspecialised, however this may change, and the department are open to discuss circumstances where candidates may be interested in reporting two or three areas. The trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services. The department has recently consolidated its services onto the main site and now undertakes around 34,000 requests per annum of general histopathology from both sites.
The department are planning to undertake an extensive laboratory refurbishment over the next few years and they are also taking part in the North England Pathology Imaging Collaborative, one of the largest digital imaging projects in the world. Currently they do not routinely report digitally though it is something being worked on for the future. The laboratory is also in the process of implementing a new laboratory information system and a new immunohistochemistry system and end-to-end specimen tracking system.

The department has close links with the local Medical School offering interested candidates opportunities for undergraduate teaching or the development of management roles within the medical school.CESR support will be made available for candidates with excellent experience and FRCPath - whilst candidates new to the NHS but with specialist registration will be accommodated and supported through their early stages in the new healthcare system and workplace to ensure you settle in well to your new surroundings.
The department is not currently subspecialised, however this may change, and the department are open to discuss circumstances where candidates may be interested in reporting two or three areas.

Job requirements:
- FRCPath in Histopathology (if non-EEA)
- CCT in Histopathology or EEA-recognised equivalent
- IELTS / OET or excellent standards of English for exemption
- A minimum of 3 years consultant experience required
- Experience in Lung, Gynae and Head & Neck desirable
Length of contract:
Substantive appointment (permanent contract)
For particularly well experience not eligible for permanent roles a fixed-term contract can be considered

WHAT IS THE TRUST & HOSPITAL LIKE?
The trust provides both acute hospital and community health care and has nearly 10,000 staff and an annual budget in 2019/20 of over £715 million. The trust has two large general hospitals in the East of England, typically well performing hospitals scoring highly in their CQC reports.
WHAT IS THE PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
Their aim is to incorporate the latest technologies and innovations to ensure the service is prepared for current and future challenges of the modern NHS, and the Trust is working towards a collaboration with a large teaching hospital and tertiary centre in China. This will bring exciting opportunities to the Histopathology department with regards research and teaching. There will be programmes of fellowship including histopathology, collaborated research projects are already started and in progress.
- The post holder appointed will take a proportionate share in the provision of the service in surgical pathology, and cytopathology.
- Surgical cut-up is performed by Consultant Pathologists, Specialty Registrars and Biomedical Scientists.
- Two biomedical scientists have completed the Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological dissection (cut-up) and one is currently in training.
- Small biopsies are handled by the technical staff.
- The Consultant Pathologists report all FNA and non-cervical cytology specimens.
- There is no provision of FNA for one stop clinics and histopathologists are not involved in taking FNA samples.
- There is currently no true sub-specialisation in the reporting of surgical histology or diagnostic cytology, although there is a lead pathologist for each of the cancer sites who acts as a contact point within the Department and participates in multidisciplinary meetings.
- There is no on-call commitment.
- The post holder may choose to undertaken coronial post mortem examinations through direct agreement with the local coroners services. This is via agreement directly with the coroner, coverage of post mortem activity if offset by time shifting of contracted NHS time to take account of the time spent undertaking the coronial post mortems.
