Job Description

An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic & motivated Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to join the fantastic Psychiatry Department in an NHS Foundation Trust, that is one of the largest trusts in the United Kingdom. The NHS Foundation Trust is rated "Good" overall by the CQC in 2019. They have a wide range of physical and mental health needs. The NHS Foundation Trust works closely with their many partners to ensure that their combined efforts are focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for the people they serve. They provide integrated, high-quality, timely services based on the needs of the individual.

The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.

The NHS Foundation Trust, created in 2002 by a merger between three NHS Trusts, is one of the largest trusts in the UK. They care for people with a wide range of physical and mental health needs. They have approximately 7,000 staff that provide healthcare to a third of London's population and across wider geographical areas, including Milton Keynes, Kent, Surrey and Hampshire.

The NHS Foundation Trust is passionate about delivering first-class patient-centered, safe and effective care, whether it is in a hospital setting, in a community clinic or in the patient’s own home. Patients are at the heart of everything they do. They provide NHS services throughout a person’s life, in physical and mental health and everything in between, at GPs and hospitals to the community. The majority of their services are provided in the community, which means treating people in their homes or from clinics close to home. In this sense they are a very modern part of the NHS, something the new Long Term Plan wants to see more of, with better integration and coordination of care, delivered as close to home as possible.

The NHS Foundation Trust provide top quality care depends on their ability to employ the best people. They are always looking to recruit outstanding people who will go the extra mile to support their patients, colleagues, teams and the Trust. With every new employee they're hoping to find their future leaders and they will support their staff by providing opportunities to develop your career.

The Adult Mental Health Service provides a range of mental health services for adults across the age range within the community and in hospital settings. These are integrated health and social care services. Many services across the boroughs are now integrated because of the synergies of the two patches, with members of the senior management often having overarching responsibilities. There is a middle/second on call tier through higher trainees and first on call provision is provided by 3 resident junior doctors.

The post holder will provide senior clinical advice and support to the daily triage, MDT and other regular clinical team meetings, ensure that all referrals are triaged daily and responded to in a timely way, and do assessment of new patients and clinical supervision of assessments carried out by other team members. The post holder review complex needs patients to ensure appropriate care packages are put in place, have Mental Health Act related-work, and do domiciliary visits to provide assessment and treatment services as a member of the CMH.

There is real opportunity to progress through CESR at pace at this trust, with a strong desire for newly-qualified consultants to develop their specialty areas of interest and undertake in various cancer trials and research projects where possible. Research is encouraged here, particularly when this is appropriate to professional development and to the service development of the department.
