Job Description

Job opportunities for experienced specialist psychiatrists to join a prestigious NHS Mental Health Trust in London on a fixed term or permanent contract. Applications are open to psychiatrists in General Adult with consultant experience in Crisis Assessment or Crisis Resolution.

WHAT IS THE NHS TRUST LIKE?
The Trust has almost 6,550 staff providing integrated healthcare to a third of London's population, and some area outside of greater London. The trust provides a wide range of services to treat people with a a variety of health needs, including common physical health problems, long-term conditions, mental health, learning disabilities, eating disorders, addictions and sexual health. The trusts catchment area covers a range of vibrant and diverse communities, with over 100 first languages spoken, ranging from areas of deprivation to areas of affluence.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT LIKE?
The Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS) was launched at the end of 2022 and is based in Central London. A high profile project the trust has ambitions for the service to be a national exemplar. The service offers a calm and therapeutic mental health setting to treat the majority of emergency mental health presentations, seeing and asses anyone over 18 years old that would otherwise go to an emergency department for mental health reasons and does not have an urgent medical need (for example, an overdose of medication). It offers full emergency mental health assessments and onward care planning in the department with a diverse and highly skilled mental health workforce incorporating nurses, doctors, support workers and access to drug and alcohol workers and psychology. The service can support every aspect of emergency mental health care planning from GP referrals to Mental Health Act Assessments.

The majority of services are provided in the community, which means treating people in their homes or from clinics close to home. In this sense this trust is a very modern part of the NHS, something the new Long Term Plan wants to see more of, with better integration and coordination of care, delivered as close to home as possible . Where community care is not possible they offer a number of facilities to treat people in hospital or residential environments. The trust also provides healthcare in prisons in London and the surrounding areas.

WHAT CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU?
Access to professional development is written into the trusts staff charter. They will work with you to provide well designed and rewarding jobs and will give you access to personal development and appropriate training for your job
