Job Description

An excellent NHS job opportunity for an enthusiastic & motivated Consultant in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry to join a fantastic & innovative Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. The service has well-supported and extensive multidisciplinary teams. The team is compassionate, supportive and practices a culture that encourages a duty of candour. This CAMHS team is part of the an NHS Trust that is rated "Good" overall by the CQC. 

The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs looking to complete CESR.

WHAT IS THE NHS TRUST LIKE? 

The NHS Trust was formed in 2019 following a merger of two strong, and high-performing NHS Trusts. The NHS Trust provides medical and surgical services across the county, largely based at their two main hospitals. They provide health, social care and learning disability services. The NHS Trust is true to its word when they say that they place quality at the heart of everything they do in order to deliver services and make a positive difference to their communities. In March 2022, the NHS Trust was rated "Good" overall by the CQC, and none of its rating per category required improvement.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 

It is a truly exciting time to be joining the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service as they are moving towards a county-wide service with clinics at localities. The department provides an assessment and treatment service for young people from the age of 0 – 18 years. The service has an expanded primary mental health staff and has recently been funded to start the Trailblazers project within schools and to support existing clinical services. The average number of sessions for treatment completion and discharge is between 8 and 10

CAMHS is committed to the THRIVE Framework which provides a set of principles for creating coherent and resource-efficient communities of mental health and wellbeing support for children, young people and families. The Framework is needs-led. This means that mental health needs are defined by children, young people and families alongside professionals through shared decision making. Needs are not based on severity, diagnosis or health care pathways.

The post holder will be expected to maintain the close working relationships with community paediatricians. Regular liaison meetings occur which facilitate coordinated input to co- morbid and complex cases. The post holder will an opportunity to develop a special interest and responsibility in a number of keys clinical area including Paediatric Liaison, Neurodevelopment Disorders, Intellectual Disability, Understanding and Planning Clinic (Complex presentations). 

WHAT IS THE AREA LIKE?

The area is a rural county in South West England with an approximate population of 637,070. The age profile of the area is equivalent to national averages for children, working age and elderly populations. There are 134,546 under 18’s.

The population enjoys a good standard of living and health with higher than average levels of life expectancy when compared to other areas of the south west and the rest of the UK. The county maintains a number of Grammar schools which persistently produce excellent exam results.

Nature lovers have contrasting options, form the honeycomb market towns and hills of the Cotswolds, to the cycle paths and mine works of the ancient Forest of Dean with its wild boars. Braver souls may fancy trying their hand at surfing the Severn Bore. The county has excellent road and rail connections to the rest of the country. Bath and Bristol, with its airport, are both within an hour drive and London is within 2 hours by direct train.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOU?

There is real opportunity to progress through CESR at pace at this trust. Research is actively encouraged by the Trust. Consultants are encouraged to engage in research themselves and expected to actively support research by specialist registrars and other professions within the multi-disciplinary environment. There is an active junior doctor training programme in which CAMHS consultants are encouraged to join.
