There is a broad spectrum of clinical work within the specialty, including the immediate management of life-threatening medical emergencies, the initial treatment (first 72 hours) of all presenting general medical ailments, and the provision of ambulatory care. There is also a strong focus on management and leadership, allowing doctors who train in Acute Medicine to set up and run successful Acute Medicine Units (AMUs).

What can you expect to do as part of a typical working week?

As an acute medicine doctor, you would expect to work in an acute hospital on either a general medicine or acute medicine ward. Acute wards can have various names and acronyms attached to them such as AAU, MAU or AMU and these wards act as the gateway between a patient’s GP, the A&E department and the wards of a hospital.

A typical working week can include ward rounds, board rounds and clinics whilst being part of the GIM on-call rota. You can expect to work with of a multi-disciplinary team comprising of consultants and nursing staff with frequent contact with specialists from other disciplines beyond general medicine.

A great opportunity for Acute Medicine speciaists looking to work through the CESR pathway towards becoming an NHS consultant.

Working for a large 450 bedded acute trust, the hospital are looking for acute medicine specialists to join a the developing medical division, where they are investing and developing in acute medicine to ensure that the  service develops and responds effectively to patient demand whilst delivering the highest quality of service.

Acute Medicine works closely with the Emergency Medicine team and all medical specialties, and you will be involved in the development of clinical pathways to improve patient outcomes.

The successful applicant, along with the other Acute Physicians, will be responsible for the care of patients on our 26-bedded Medical Assessment Unit, Ambulatory Care Unit and Short Stay (Saunders) Unit. You will be supported by a full multi-disciplinary team, which includes a junior medical team and an Advanced Nurse Practitioners and IMGs are very well supported through this process.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate extensive experience in Acute Medicine, and preferably possess CCT in Acute Medicine, or General Medicine with a specialty interest.

  • Extensive experience in acute and general internal medicine

The department will support applicants undertaking or wishing to proceed through the CESR route, so this is a great opportunity for international doctors interested in NHS acute consultant roles.

Opportunity for Specialist Registration via CESR in Acute Medicine for experienced international doctors.

A trust in the South West of England are looking for an experienced acute doctor to join on a permanent contract.

Requiremets are:
