The General Adult Psychiatry department is a team of innovative & hardworking doctors. The Site Hospital is the new purpose built 60 bedded working age adult in-patient Hospital. The Working Age Adult psychiatric services are organised into a community service comprising a Community Mental Health Recovery Services. The Acute Service component comprises a Home Treatment team covering the boroughs. The home treatment team ‘gate keeps’ admissions to the inpatient units.
In patient services aims to provide timely assessments and promote recovery of people with a wide range of mental health needs. The goal is one of therapeutic engagement within a recovery framework. There is a multidisciplinary team who develop individual care plans working with each service user. The inpatient wards interfaces with home treatment teams, psychiatric liaison services, Section 136 places of safety, community mental health recovery services, and the wider criminal justice system.
It is expected that the post holder will provide Consultant Psychiatrist input and Responsible clinician cover for a 18-bedded ward mainly serving the population of aligned to the wards alongside another Consultant. The team is a group of people that are dynamic and prioritises their patients. The deparment service runs child development clinics across the county. From the summer of 2021 the main community hub will be at one of their main sites, with satellite clinics in community settings across the county and at two of their major sites. Neuro-disability clinics are run weekly on each side of the county.
All general paediatric consultants in the department provide a service to examine children for physical abuse medicals, when on call. The community paediatricians are involved in cases of neglect, welfare medicals and when called on for advice for physical abuse. Assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorders are multidisciplinary and involve community paediatricians, speech and language therapists and/or clinical psychologists and the specialist community nursing team.
A sleep service has been developed for children with neurodevelopmental disorders and difficulties. This is a multidisciplinary clinic run by a Community Paediatrician, Clinical Psychologist and Nurse Advisor. The Community Consultants will provide clinical supervision, support and education for members of the Community Child Health Team, i.e. the Specialist Grades, Associate Specialist and Specialist Registrar(s) for Community Paediatrics.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership within the Community Mental Health Team alongside 3.5 Consultant colleagues. The Service is designed in keeping with Locality Leadership groups which liaise closely with the Local clinical commissioning groups. Total population served by the team is around 215,000 with the 19-64 registered population being approximately 133,000.
The CMHT staff have enhanced roles, the Team comprises of (4.5) WTE Consultant psychiatrists (including this post), (1) x band 8 Service Manager, (2) WTE Band 7 Operational Team Lead, (7.6) WTE Band 6 care coordinators and (1) WTE Band 6 OT, (1) WTE Band 5 nurse, (1) WTE Band 5 OT, (1.5) WTE Band 3 HCA, (1) WTE Band 3 STR, (4.5) psychological practitioners with skills in a range of modalities, (1) WTE Non Medical Prescriber & GP trainees on rotation.
It will be expected of the post holder to be actively involved in strengthening relationships with external agencies including the local CCG. WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Mental Health Team provides a service to two towns and their surrounding villages. Total population served by the Team is 106,800 with the 19-64 population being 64,440. The current case load varies between 600-800 cases for the whole of the team with a referral rate varying between 3-7 cases per day. Each Consultant may hold a small caseload of standard care patients who only require medical input prior to transfer to primary care (maximum number of 20).
The CMHT staff have enhanced roles, the Team comprises of (1) locality manager and (1) interim locality manager (Senior practitioner OT), (1) whole time equivalent senior practitioner (Nursing), (5) full time equivalent CPN’s and (1) part time equivalent CPN, (4) whole time equivalent occupational therapist, (8) full time STR workers, and (1) SAS doctor. There are currently no trainee doctors within the team – however this can be developed with the appropriate supervision qualifications.
The post holder will attend Trust meetings including Strategic Development Meetings, Clinical Governance Meetings within the Service Line and other meetings as requested. The post holder will build constructive relationships with the team manager and with other senior professionals.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
???The total population of the area is 100,000 with the 16-65 population of 61,000. There are two full time Consultants covering the Community Mental Health Team (this post being one of them). The Community Mental Health team comprises: (1) WTE Operational team managers, (1) WTE Service manager, (6) WTE CPNs, (6) WTE STR Workers, (1) WTE Non-medical prescriber, (4) WTE psychological therapists, and (5) WTE admin staff. There are currently no junior doctors within the team – however this can be developed with the appropriate supervision qualifications - there is a band (7) non medical prescriber.
The community mental health team accept referrals from varies agencies including General practitioners, IAPT services, secondary and tertiary agencies. The current caseload is approx. 650 with a referral rate of approximately 4-6 patients per day. Within the caseload there are currently 3 patients on a CTO and 6 patients who are on a conditionally discharged MoJ Section. Every patient has a lead healthcare professional and the post holder will provide advice/input as requested and attend the majority of CPA meetings. You will see between 15 and 20 patients a week.
The post holder will have access to dedicated admin with a ratio of 3:1, with consultants also having full access to a secretarial pool for all preparation of letters and reports etc.
