Consultant gastroenterologist with advanced endoscopy


A large trust in the South West are looking a specilaised gastroenterology consultant with a particular interest in ERCP, or an individual who would wish to train in both advanced endoscopy and ERCP.

Your role will incorporate clinic and ERCP/endoscopy; out of hours GI bleed commitment as well as inpatient workloads, giving a wide variety to the working day.

Gastroenterology Department:
During the past few years the department has secured a fully refurbished endoscopy unit to the sum of £3.4 million.

The Bowel Cancer Screening programme has been in place since July 2009 and the Bowel Scope Screening programme was commissioned in April 2015 with the first list taking place in October 2015.

An Alcohol Liaison Team was commissioned in April 2015 to aid with the delivery of brief interventions to prevent alcohol related admissions.

The Speciality is held in high regard for their contribution to foundation year training within the Trust. Often receiving excellent reviews, the team show their commitment to the future of medical education. The unique community based Hepatitis C program in conjunction with the hospital based service was highly commended in the National Quality & Care awards in 2014.

Radiological delivered paracentesis was embedded in 2017 and an “IBD Hub” has been established in recent months enabling the team to virtually monitor this chronic cohort of patients.

The department runs an established EUS list along with various other advanced endoscopy areas. 

Gastroenterology Team:
The team consists of 9 consultants, 2 SpRs and a large support team of both clinical and non-clinical staff.

Candidate Specification:

Requirements for this position are:

  • MRCP UK or equivalent
  • IELTS or OET
  • Advanced endoscopy experience including ERCP, EUS
  • Extensive experience in the delivery of therapeutic gastroenterology and diagnostic colonoscopy
  • Previous consultant experience, ideally within the NHS but those without will be considered.

Please note, overseas candidates not on the specialist register will be offered support with their CESR process if this is the route they intend to take, whilst of course providing support with Tier 2 visa.
