They can also offer an annualised job plan and less than full time working. The Job Plans will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities & objectives. WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The post offered is that of Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adult Psychiatry, working in both the community mental health team and the memory clinic. In addition to this post, three additional CMHTs make up the older adult community service for the borough. The personnel of the CMHT include: medical staff, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Occupational Therapist, and Psychiatric Social Workers. There is a Psychological Therapy Department which provides therapy for older adults and which works across CMHTs in the Borough as does the Occupational Therapy Service.
The post holder will have responsibility for the diagnostic assessment and treatment of older adult psychiatric patients from the designated catchment area referred to and accepted by the service. Outpatient clinics and domiciliary visits in the community will constitute the majority of the direct clinical care provided by the post holder.

The research department is made up of more than 60 dedicated staff and recruits around 3000 patients a year to clinical studies across 24 different specialities. The Acute Oncology team is a successful proactive team within the Trust in which all patients entering the trust with a cancer related issue or a cancer treatment related issue are seen and reviewed within 24hrs. The specialty of acute oncology lies at the heart of cancer care. It links admitting acute, general specialty teams with palliative care, radiology, histopathology, nursing, and social care. By doing so, it drives forward care that is finely tuned to patient need, ensuring that appropriate management takes place in the right setting. The Trust was the first DGH to implement a successful 7 day service nationally.
Day to day inpatient care remains with the admitting teams, but the acute oncology team aims to provide input to all oncology patients where this is required. Daily consultant ward rounds take place Monday to Friday, to review newly admitted patients with cancer-related problems. An average ward round consists of 10-12 patients. There is a nurse-delivered acute oncology service at weekends. Out of hours oncology cover is provided.
Clinic work is shared between 11 visiting consultants and a part-time associate specialist. Registrars attend some clinics.
We have an active research department supported by a team of Research Nurses and Clinical Trials Practitioners who work across Trust Hospitals. The recruitment of patients into clinical trials is considered to be an essential part of this post. The department supports NIHR adopted studies both academic and commercial. You will collaborate with Research & Innovation department to enhance the oncology research portfolio.

The Centre has an income of £50m and is home to a custom designed department with dedicated radiotherapy and outpatient facilities as part of the main District General Hospital, which was upgraded in 2012.
Due to recent funding the Trust has been able to purchase five new state of the art Varian Trubeam Linear Accelerators across its Oncology Centre. Over the 2 sites we have 9 Linear Accelerator Treatment Machines and 3 CT Planning Simulators.
The research department is made up of more than 60 dedicated staff and recruits around 3000 patients a year to clinical studies across 24 different specialities. The trust benefits from being near academic partners such as Universities and local Medical Schools (KMMS). Additionally, the trust has studies open that are interventional and observational, as well as studies that investigate genetic profiling. Within radiotherapy, the Trust are also undertaking SABR trials. We have many clinicians that support oncology research trials within various specialities.

Both Oncology departments are multi-disciplined and dedicated towards the implementation of world-leading care in the region.
The diagnostic imaging department supports acute and cancer services with CT scanning, MRI, a proactive interventional radiology team, on-site PET scanning, nuclear medicine, specialty reporting and dedicated support to cancer MDTs. The Oncology departments see approximately 3,500 new referrals per year and deliver around 22,000 episodes of chemotherapy per year.
Both departments have extensive support staff. Staff include 7 clinical oncology registrars, 4 medical oncology registrars and SHOs on a variety of training schemes. There are 39 funded beds.
