Medical & Clinical Oncology consultants looking to start or continue their careers in the NHS are invited to join excellent, large specialised hospital Trust on the South Coast of England. The Specialist Oncology Centre is based onsite and provides Cancer services to the local population in addition to parts of Sussex (Chichester) and the Isle of Wight. It is a friendly and integrated Centre, with enhanced treatment and facilities, nursing and pharmacy roles and encourages research and innovation.
They are looking to appoint both a clinical and medical oncologist and they can offer either permanent consultant roles or locum consultant roles with support for CESR depending on whether you are recognised as a specialist in the UK already. Additionally, these roles can cater for your cancer site interests amongst their most needed areas that include breast, brain tumour, colon, lung, head and neck and CNS.

The Histopathology department at this Trust is on a trajectory of advancement, aiming to incorporate the latest technologies and innovations to meet the current and future challenges of the modern NHS. An exciting collaboration with a large teaching hospital and tertiary center in China is underway, promising extensive opportunities for research and teaching within the Histopathology department. The post holder will play a crucial role in surgical pathology and cytopathology, engaging with a dynamic and multidisciplinary team.
The work environment within the Histopathology department is characterized by surgical cut-up performed by Consultant Pathologists, Specialty Registrars, and Biomedical Scientists. Two biomedical scientists have completed the Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological dissection (cut-up), with ongoing training for another. Technical staff handle small biopsies, while Consultant Pathologists report all FNA and non-cervical cytology specimens. Although there is no sub-specialization in surgical histology or diagnostic cytology at present, lead pathologists for each cancer site act as contact points within the department, actively participating in multidisciplinary meetings. Importantly, there is no on-call commitment, and the post holder has the option to undertake coronial post-mortem examinations by direct agreement with local coroners services.
Currently, there are six consultant pathologists, with capacity for two more, including the current vacancy. The Histopathology and Blood Science services are fully accredited by UKAS, participating in both interpretative and technical EQA schemes. The hospital itself holds HTA approval as an institution.

WHAT IS THE RESPIRATORY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The service are looking for individuals able to run subspecialty respiratory medicine for a population of over 800,000. They wish to develop existing specialist sleep and NIV services and create specialty services in lung cancer and intervention, Bronchiectasis, lung infection, and asthma. Individuals with an interest in any of these sub-speciality areas would be considered.
Both the Hospitals have well established and progressive units providing a wide range of respiratory services to the local population. They pride themselves on their reputation for being a cohesive, supportive and friendly departments. The trust is developing a model of partnership bringing exciting new service development opportunities. To complement the established services they are looking to develop specialist respiratory services to serve the combined catchment areas of both trusts of over 800,000. Growing the department, the service are appointing x2 Consultants who will be based primarily at Ipswich Hospital, one as a replacement post and one new post to expand our compliment to 6 full time Consultants. They aim to make further appointments in due course with the aim of working towards a 7 day service.
They have recently expanded their provision of undergraduate medical education on both sites and there are opportunities for appointees to be formally involved in their education programme. Students from the University of Cambridge University and Norwich medical school are taught in the respiratory department at one of the hospitals. We would welcome applications from those with an interest in medical education. The Respiratory Consultants do not participate in the acute medical take rota, although any appointee may be able to join the rota if they wish.
A procedure room is being created on the new high dependency ward. The trust is currently building a new ambulatory care unit which our department will have access to. The trust is planning to increase ambulatory and interventional services, and would support service development in these areas. They currently have access at Ipswich to Bronchoscopy, Linear EBUS and a full pleural service. They are looking to develop physician led cancer diagnostics with ultrasound guided biopsy and radial EBUS. Medical thoracoscopy is carried out in one of the hospitals along with a future prospect in expanding to the other site as well.
