The trust services to a half a million people. We’re responsible for delivering over 70 services across 15 main locations and we employ over 6500 members of staff.
What is the department like?
The department consists of 5 consultants along with 3 full time nurse specialists, 2 part time sleep nurse specialists, 1 registrar, 2 trainees and 4 FY doctors in the department. The ward is a 23-bedded unit typically ranging 5-8 patients per days. The hospitals is a modern 27 bedded unit for both Respiratory and general medical patients usually shared by 2-3 consultants in the department.
The service has had a significant modernisation in the last few years expanding junior doctors into subspecialties like Lung Cancer focussing more on EBUS with lymph node aspirate and biopsy, a dedicated plural procedures room, improved thoracoscopy business cases, 10 brand new non-invasive ventilation machines, Participation in the regional asthma network / MDT, Participation in the regional Interstitial Lung Disease Network.
CESR
International candidates are welcome and CESR will be supported. Direct input will be provided on a regular basis from the Clinical Director, with opportunity for shadowing, lists and portfolio building built into the job plan.
The team has recent experience of supporting IMGs with the CESR process, benefiting any newly appointed candidate.
The remainder of the appointee’s professional time will be deployed flexibly on other clinical duties, administration, teaching, research, clinical audit and continuing medical education. The Trust is excited to be developing a Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at the Cumberland Infirmary site which will comprise a 10 bedded HAS unit at CIC, a further 25 acute and rehabilitation beds, and a further 15 acute and rehabilitation beds at WCH. If you successful, you will join the newly forming team and have the opportunity to contribute to this exciting development for our patients in both the Cumberland Infirmary and the West Cumberland Hospital. You would also be instrumental in the establishment of a high quality stroke service across North Cumbria. The planned 7-day service model will allow the delivery of 7-day stroke / TIA clinics which will rapidly speed up diagnosis and therapeutic intervention, and will provide an integrated pathway into community services.
This development was implemented in the last few years, with the new service becoming increasingly embedded into Integrated Care Communities (ICCs) specialist ESSD rehabilitation that is delivered at local level under the joint management of the ICC and the ESSD coordination team.

The General Adult Psychiatry department is a team of innovative & hardworking doctors. The Site Hospital is the new purpose built 60 bedded working age adult in-patient Hospital. The Working Age Adult psychiatric services are organised into a community service comprising a Community Mental Health Recovery Services. The Acute Service component comprises a Home Treatment team covering the boroughs. The home treatment team ‘gate keeps’ admissions to the inpatient units.
In patient services aims to provide timely assessments and promote recovery of people with a wide range of mental health needs. The goal is one of therapeutic engagement within a recovery framework. There is a multidisciplinary team who develop individual care plans working with each service user. The inpatient wards interfaces with home treatment teams, psychiatric liaison services, Section 136 places of safety, community mental health recovery services, and the wider criminal justice system.

A district general hospital pathology team in Sussex, UK, are looking for a Locum Consultant Histopathologist with an interest in Gynaecological Pathology. This histopathology role is open to both international and UK-trained candidates, however some familiarity with NHS reporting is needed to be considdered for the role. A European Specialist Qualification or FRCPath Histopathology is required.

The respiratory department is a fully integrated department: they provide a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient specialist services from their two acute sites. They also have a multi-disciplinary integrated respiratory team (RESPS) providing services across both acute sites, in the community and in the patients homes. The inpatient respiratory care is based on their main ward, which is a 28 bedded medical ward with a high turnover of acute respiratory and medical patients.
There are two consultants covering the ward in patients and referrals at any one time. The department meets daily with their multidisciplinary team attended by doctors in training, nursing staff, social service and physiotherapy teams to ensure efficient, safe, consultant led best practice and patient centred care. They incorporate medical education, audit and quality improvement into their ward rounds with their doctors in training to inspire and encourage learning. They are looking for a colleague who shares their values in best practice to join them to develop their service and work further.
The appointee will be expected to help develop and enhance the general and respiratory medicine services for both inpatients and out-patients. The appointee is expected to be committed to the improvement of quality of clinical care in the Division and to participate in incident reporting, risk management, mortality reviews and Divisional Clinical Governance Meetings.

WHAT IS THE CELLULAR PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Cellular Pathology Department & Team is a group of people who are hard-working and are dedicated to supporting their colleagues. The department is well-equipped and has a dedicated MDM meeting rooms with video conferencing facilities. The MDMs are divided fairly amongst the consultants with only one pathologist attending each meeting and limited sub-specialisation.
The department has implemented the Warwick workload management system and this is used to allocate work to consultants. The post holder will play a full part in the provision of a diagnostic pathology service to the Trust and will be expected to contribute to the provision of a cancer pathology service for one or more anatomical sites, complementing the interests of the consultants already in post.

Providing primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for the population of around 700,000 across of North Wales. Besides their three main hospital sites, they are also responsible for community hospitals, health centres, clinics, mental health units, community teams, GP practices and other NHS services provided by dentists, opticians and pharmacists. They plan to improve the health of the population, with particular focus upon the most vulnerable in our society.
WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The department currently have three full-time urological surgeons, a Locum Consultant along with 5 middle grade registrar level training including 1 SpR from the Mersey Deanery training programme. There are two SHO level staff and one FY1 and FY2. The Department has recently undergone a refurbishment, to provide day-case urology and therapeutic services to include TRUS-Guided prostate biopsy lists, an endoscopy suite, dedicated lithotripsy sessions and specialist out-patient clinics. The department has inpatient beds based on the 3rd floor within the Surgical Department. Paediatric beds are also available on the main hospital site.
The department uses one of the two dedicated purpose built modern integrated laparoscopic surgery theatres for its heavy laparoscopic workload. Currently, major laparoscopic Nephrectomies and prostatectomies are performed in this OR. A 12 bedded Intensive Care/High Dependency Unit is located on the first floor of the hospital. There are excellent pathology facilities, including a Public Health Laboratory. The Radiology Department offers a full range of facilities, including CT, MRI and fully functional intervention radiology service.
The post holder will provide elective and emergency inpatient services, along with other members of the department. The post holder will also participate actively in the Department’s Clinical Audit Programme and Continuing Professional Development, which is fully supported by the Health Board.

The post holder will be provide assessment, formulation and management of significant developmental, behavioural and mental health disorders occurring in children and adolescents 0-18 years. The post holder will participate in relevant strategic and operational meetings and contribute to team management processes of the Community CAMHS teams, including clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
