The Older Adults Community Mental Health Team (OACMHT) manages a caseload of about 300 patients, including new referrals triaged by the Crisis and Assessment team, providing both short-term treatment and long-term care coordination. The role involves providing medical support to the OACMHT alongside two other consultants and a staff grade doctor.
The post holder will join an established team, comprising 2 WTE older adult consultants, 1.0 WTE Associate Specialist (Memory Assessment Service), 2.0 WTE staff grades (inpatient and community), and 1.0 WTE F1 doctor (inpatients and community). General Adult Psychiatry Department & Team
The inpatient service features 17 adult acute beds, including an extra-care area, for individuals aged 18 to 65 with severe mental illness requiring admission. The goal is to promote recovery and well-being, helping service users achieve their potential. The service caters to a diverse population with complex needs. The multidisciplinary inpatient team includes doctors (two part-time consultants, staff grade/clinical fellow, and F2), a clinical psychologist, nurses, a social worker, occupational therapists, an art therapist, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff.
The Home Treatment Team functions as a step-up, step-down service to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitate early discharge. They attend ward reviews, support patients on leave, and assist with discharge planning, also gatekeeping inpatient beds. The team includes two part-time consultants, a 0.5 FTE team manager, two FTE senior practitioners, 5.5 FTE nurse practitioners, one FTE social worker, three FTE senior HCAs, and one FTE occupational therapist. Covering all adult ages, there is an arrangement with an Older Adult Consultant for additional support if needed.

It is a busy team covering 2 sites, and the team works on an outpatient model. The caseload for this post is estimated to be 120. The CAMHS department is part of the East and North Strategic Business Unit in the NHS Foundation Trust. CAMHS is divided into 5 service divisions.
The CAMHS Community Eating Disorders Service is a newly expanded, multi-disciplinary team which provides specialist CAMHS input to children and young people with eating disorders. It provides home-based treatment, out-patient treatment and gate-keeps referrals to in-patient services. The team has a very positive reputation and the ED practitioners have won numerous Trust wide and national awards. The team has been successful in attracting Government funding to allow service expansion.
The post holder is Providing consultation, advice and appropriate support to professionals in the wider network of the young person and/or family. WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The department is falls within the hospital services division. It is a 17 bed unit and functions as a male acute treatment ward. Patients admitted to the ward are usually subject to a \"gate-keeping\" assessment by the Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Team and/or the MHCAS service or Mental Health Liaison Services. The main purpose of the ward is to ensure the comprehensive, timely and efficient assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all patients with a clear focus on achieving a safe return to treatment in a least-restrictive setting back in the community as quickly as possible. This involves the proactive anticipation, evaluation and resolution of all potential impediments to early discharge of the patient. The postholder will ensure two ward rounds and one management round take place every week.
The team, led by the Ward Manager of the ward, is comprised of professionals from various disciplines. The postholder will collaborate closely with the Ward Manager, sharing responsibility for delivering efficient and top-notch inpatient care. At the site, the inpatient psychology team serves all treatment wards, with a 0.2 Whole-Time Equivalent (WTE) allocation per ward. The inpatient psychology service focuses on conducting assessments and providing brief focal therapy to address acute distress or crises for individuals, as well as their caregivers and families, adhering to evidence-based practices. When suitable, the service may also offer group therapy, assessment-informed consultation, and psychometric evaluations.
The post holder\'s responsibilities include medical input, consultation and clinical leadership to the ward team and overall clinical responsibility for patients admitted to the ward, as well as medical input and leadership in care planning and risk assessment for patients. The post holder is expected to ensuring Care Planning is implemented for patients on the ward.

The NHS Foundation Trust is currently looking for a Specialist in Inpatient Adult Psychiatry. This is an outstanding opportunity for experienced Consultants Psychiatrists, Associate Specialist (Specialist Grade) and Specialty Doctors who is looking to work toward Specialist Registration through the CESR pathway.
The post is suitable for candidates holding specialisation in the EEA, or for experienced IMGs ideally with MRCPsych and overseas consultant or specialist experience looking to complete CESR.
WHAT IS THE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST LIKE?
The NHS Trust provides mental health services to all age ranges and supports people with a range of mental health problems whether they are mild, moderate or severe. The NHS Trust employs over 9,000 people who deliver support for the patient services. In addition to providing a wide range of patient services, we also contribute to training the next generation of nurses, doctors and therapists and conduct research that will help to advance clinical practice and treatments in the future.
WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
The Department is a 14 bedded ward which admits adults of working age. The district covers a largely rural area of 285 square miles with a population of approximately 114,000. There are 275 admissions per 100,000 adult population in Somerset. Over the last three years there was an average of 223 admissions per year with bed occupancy being lower than the national average. The majority of the patients admitted were given a diagnosis of a psychotic illness, followed by a mood disorder and then personality disorders.
The post holder will be part of the team which consists of a ward manager 0.5WTE, a deputy ward manager 1WTE, a trainee doctor 1.WTE, a medical secretary 0.4WTE, a ward administrator 1.0WTE, a ward psychologist 0.5WTE, three occupational therapists, 11 staff nurses, 17 health care assistants, and 6 service assistants.
The post holder will also be responsible for conducting Mental Health Act assessments for adults of working age admitted to the ward. Other Mental Health Act assessments for adults of working age in Mendip will fall to the community adult consultant psychiatrists. The post holder may be invited to contribute.
