General Adult Psychiatry Department & Team

The inpatient service features 17 adult acute beds, including an extra-care area, for individuals aged 18 to 65 with severe mental illness requiring admission. The goal is to promote recovery and well-being, helping service users achieve their potential. The service caters to a diverse population with complex needs. The multidisciplinary inpatient team includes doctors (two part-time consultants, staff grade/clinical fellow, and F2), a clinical psychologist, nurses, a social worker, occupational therapists, an art therapist, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff.

The Home Treatment Team functions as a step-up, step-down service to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitate early discharge. They attend ward reviews, support patients on leave, and assist with discharge planning, also gatekeeping inpatient beds. The team includes two part-time consultants, a 0.5 FTE team manager, two FTE senior practitioners, 5.5 FTE nurse practitioners, one FTE social worker, three FTE senior HCAs, and one FTE occupational therapist. A district general hospital pathology team in Sussex, UK, are looking for a Locum Consultant Histopathologist with an interest in Gynaecological Pathology. This histopathology role is open to both international and UK-trained candidates, however some familiarity with NHS reporting is needed to be considdered for the role. A European Specialist Qualification or FRCPath Histopathology is required.  

Anyone requiring portfolio support (formally known as CESR) can have their required support discussed on a case-by-case basis.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DETAILS

Applicants should have a medical degree, full GMC registration, and experience in histopathology and cytopathology. Holding a CCT or equivalent is preferred. The salary will align with NHS consultant pay scales, dependent on experience or grade.

CORE DUTIES OF THIS ROLE

• Deliver high-quality diagnostic histopathology and cytopathology services.
• Engage in multidisciplinary team meetings and support cancer diagnostics.
• Participate in audits, quality improvement, and research projects.
• Involve in training and mentorship of medical staff.
