NUH is one the largest respiratory departments in the country with a wealth of subspecialty services, ranging from asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, ILD including LAM, through lung cancer to infections including TB. In particular they are a regional centre for complex ventilation and sleep. The Respiratory service runs on both campuses; therefore cross site working is a requirement of the post. Respiratory inpatient beds are currently predominantly on the City campus. NUH has a dedicated respiratory assessment unit (RAU), taking direct admissions via 999 ambulance service, as well as transfers from the Emergency Department based at Queen’s Medical Centre campus. RAU has 20 beds, including 4 side rooms, and is led by a strong team of nurses, including Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and a team of doctors, including a dedicated Trust grade post. On the QMC campus we have the 12 bedded Advanced Respiratory Care Unit (ARCU). The Respiratory team also provides in-reach cover to the Emergency department and acute medical admissions area based on the QMC campus. The unit works in conjunction with the Rapid Assessment and Frailty Team (RAFT) to facilitate prompt discharges to home or community support when suitable. The NHS Foundation Trust provide health and social care for over 400,000 people with mental ill health, physical ill health and learning disabilities across four cities. WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE? 

The Trusts Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is an award winning service and has received specific CQC recognition as being outstanding in 3 categories (Caring, responsive and well-led) they credit this to the outstanding people we have delivering care to our service users. It is a busy team covering 2 sites, and the team works on an outpatient model. The caseload for this post is estimated to be 120. The CAMHS department is part of the East and North Strategic Business Unit in the NHS Foundation Trust. CAMHS is divided into 5 service divisions. 

The CAMHS Community Eating Disorders Service is a newly expanded, multi-disciplinary team which provides specialist CAMHS input to children and young people with eating disorders. It provides home-based treatment, out-patient treatment and gate-keeps referrals to in-patient services. The team has a very positive reputation and the ED practitioners have won numerous Trust wide and national awards. The team has been successful in attracting Government funding to allow service expansion.

The post holder is Providing consultation, advice and appropriate support to professionals in the wider network of the young person and/or family. The post holder is expected to contribute to the supervision of the trainees and the specialty doctor allocated to the service. The post holder is expected to provide opportunities for case based discussion and teaching to the MDT.

As part of a significant initiative within the NHS, pathology services in England are undergoing reorganization, transitioning into larger local network models. This restructuring has led to the establishment of 29 pathology units nationwide.

The Pathology Service was established following the Lord Carter review of Pathology services in England, aiming to reduce overtesting, enhance resilience, and lower costs. amalgamates staff, services, and IT platforms from four trusts to enhance pathology quality in the Black Country, serving 1.4 million individuals and conducting 60 million tests annually. It underwent a comprehensive IT system overhaul to facilitate integrated services, embrace new technologies, and expedite laboratory results.

The pathology service operates three laboratories offering nationally accredited consultant-led pathology services. With state-of-the-art facilities and IT systems, they garnered commendation from Lord Carter for its efficiency and innovation in pathology. Notably, innovations showcased during Lord Carter\'s visit in 2021 included pre-barcoded tubes for sample tracking and digital automation in microbiology labs.

Lord Carter praised the service as a model of service integration and technological advancement, emphasizing the importance of technology, including artificial intelligence, in expediting diagnostics. He commended the leadership and dedication of the staff, highlighting their achievements and commitment to patient care. The evidence is there to be seen, as latest figures show they scored 92 per cent compliance on a dashboard provided by NHS Improvement, ranking it one of the best performing services in the country

Forensic Psychiatry Team & Department

The Forensic Service enjoys a stellar reputation, earning an \'Outstanding\' rating from the Care Quality Commission. The Forensic Service delivers care in low and medium secure environments, featuring specialized facilities such as the National Stalking Clinic and the Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (FTAC). These services focus on evaluating and managing risks for prominent individuals. 

The inpatient service consists of one acute assessment and treatment medium secure male 4 4 ward, four treatment and intervention medium secure male wards, one female medium secure ward, one medium secure and one low secure male learning disability ward, one low secure male FICU ward and 4 low secure male wards. There are currently 25 Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists in post, working with 5 senior psychiatric trainees who rotate with posts at other forensic psychiatric services in the region. There are 5 junior psychiatric trainees, coming from the UCH training schemes. The service currently employs 10 specialty doctors, working in the prisons and in the rehabilitation parts of the service.
